I have opportunities to go to some really nice beaches in HI (which I'm not as worried about) and Thailand. What are your recommendations for avoiding sand/salt water and security? I mean, we're talking really scenic, so I wouldn't want to miss opportunities to photograph. I don't have time to order anything; the best I can come up with is stopping by a bike or outdoor shop and getting a small drybag... if I can find the right one. Or a ziptop plastic bag or two. Also, leaving a bag on the beach is a security risk, so what are practical tips for this? I mean, yes, I can leave the camera in the hotel/bungalow/relative's house, but hmmm.... sps Posted March 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 I use a gallon double seal ziplock (not the slider kind), and place the camera in it allowing the two parts of the strap to press up against the edges of the bag. Then I seal the middle. If I'm not using it at all, I just tuck in the straps and throw the whole thing in the beach bag (or cooler:) ). Quick on & off and the camera comes back clean. Sand and salt water are not things with which I'd want to deal concerning a $5000 camera and expensive lenses too. Photoskeptic Posted March 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted March 14, 2007 I live at the beach. I've never had a problem with any camera here - DSLR, M's. And I wade into the surf to shoot if necessary.
