First of all let me say hello to all serious Leica users,

while reading through this forum for some time I recognized, that there's more serious work here in the international part of the forum. I want to bring the following to your attention ;)

There's a new forum for Aperture users available: Aperture Users Professional Network

Since a few days that forum started a poll, which cameras the Aperture users prefer. We may have a chance here to "push" Apple into the right direction if we let them know, how many serious Aperture users ("future users") work with the DMR and the M8.

Once signed up your vote can be placed here.

Let's get Apples butt moving a little bit faster

best wishes

Michael Adam

I use Aperture all the time and it is a shame they keep ignoring Leica ... I guess apart from some support they should also work on a version that actually works fast enough to do all the work one needs to do. Adobe is that department already much better. However, I am not giving up , just added my 2 cents.

I shall register as well!!

Sorry but i was not very nice

How can you call yourself a Professional program when you can't support Professional Photographers that use a Leica DMR and M8. Your missing a big segment of the market

C'mon Guy, sign in and vote! So that we'll be in 23... :)

Not that I love Aperture, but how could I try to use it more if it doesn't support the DMR and the M8 (natively) ?

At least they seem interested if they list both Leicas in this poll...

Well, you are right. Several "consumer" DSRL are supported, and several professional tools aren't.

Aperture was presented as a professional application, but actually Apple has reduced the price and has changed the target: Aperture became a "for all publics" application. This is good for the Pentax K100D, but not so good for the Leica DMR.

Please note that there are two places to respond on that forum: one is at the poll

http://www.apertureprofessional.com/showthread.php?t=729

and the other is where Guy and some of us have left our comments. I think the poll will have the greater effect.

I just posted on the other one. Again very strong reply

How can Aperture call itself a Professional program when you can't support Professional Photographers that use a Leica DMR and M8. Your missing a big segment of the market and for Pro's like me that have several big Mac systems to work with and thousands of dollars invested in camera gear and no support from your computer company they should feel embarassed that a application squarely directed at a professional photographer has no support for the leica DMR and M8. If this is a war between Adobe and Apple than grow up and be part of the solution and not the problem. Because i see no reason they can't be supported and leica has given you the gear to do it.

Sometimes i can not be very friendly but with good cause.

Though I use LightRoom and C1 Pro, I am a huge fan of Aperture because it provides the best color conversion for my Canon raw files. I currently use C1 Pro for M8 raw files because it provides the best color conversion for its raw files. The M8 Aperture hack, unfortunately, presents smoothing artifacts that I find unacceptable and LightRoom changes the M8's mid-tones more than I prefer. So I eagerly await Aperture's support for the M8 based on the excellent results I've achieved with other cameras.

However, unlike other cameras whose firmware changes involve write speeds, menu selections, etc., the Leica M8 firmware changes actually manipulate color as well. So if Aperture were to support the M8 in its current-evolving state, Aperture would have to create new updates with each firmware change. As Aperture engineers put great effort into perfecting each raw conversion algorithm for supported cameras, I can understand their hesitancy to support the M8 at this point in time. Perhaps when version 1.10 is released Lecia will have settled on a set-color for the M8. Then, Aperture can support the M8.
