colonel Posted August 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the urge to shoot off some film rolls I used to love this and want a small stand alone system to return to. I was thinking of either a used zeiss ikon or M6 and a single lens, either a: Zeiss 50mm f1.5 ZM Zeiss 50mm f2 ZM Leica Summicron f2 Having f1.5 would be nice (from an artistic DOF perspective) but I think the other two lenses are sharper across the range What would you guys do ? Advertisement Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Hi colonel, Take a look here first film kit ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted August 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2012 M6, 50mm Summicron. Actually what I'd get would be M6, 35mm Summicron, but since all the lenses you've listed are 50mm I assume that's your favoured focal length.
andybarton Posted August 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2012 +1 You don't need a very modern Summicron, either. Mine is from 1973 and it's a belter
colonel Posted August 22, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted August 22, 2012 +1 You don't need a very modern Summicron, either. Mine is from 1973 and it's a belter you guys seem to be Leicerists (I expected nothing less !) I can get a 1987 M6 in excellent condition and a Summicron in similar condition from 1986
ramosa Posted August 22, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2012 M6 + either Cron 35 or 50 ...
earleygallery Posted August 22, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 22, 2012 You already appear to be a Leica user, what lenses do you have? Assuming you have an M or LTM mount lens already, you just need to add the film camera body, and buy some film of course!
CalArts 99 Posted August 22, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree, M6 and a 50mm Summicron. I lived with that combination for a few years and life was good.

I'm a bit partial to the M6(TTL in my case). I have two 50 Summiluxes and have realised that it is not always easy to use the widest aperture if one wants a perfectly exposed negative; very often I have to move to 1.8 or 2 (the horror) because the shutter speed only moves in full stops. A minor issue perhaps. Clearly, provided one accepts half a stop of over- or under-exposure, it is possible to use 1.4 which may be the best way to get a shot. What's your price limit? pico Posted August 22, 2012 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2012 you guys seem to be Leicerists (I expected nothing less !) Aw, get a Canon Canonet G3 in good condition. It will amaze you how little your photography will improve when you switch to a Leica.
colonel Posted August 22, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted August 22, 2012 What's your price limit? Thanks interesting points about f1.4 I was hoping to be all in below £1,400 The m8 is £800 (I save at least £150 by not getting the TTL - I don't use flash) Rgds
philipus Posted August 22, 2012 Share #11 Posted August 22, 2012 Red Dot has a v1 Summilux for 800£ and two M6 0.72x for 799£ and 749£. Aperture has a TTL for £820 and an M6 for £750. I'm afraid I don't know anything about Zeiss lenses.
Hausen17 Posted August 23, 2012 Share #12 Posted August 23, 2012 +1 on M6 + 50 Summicron. That is what is sitting on my desk in front of me now. The 50 Sonnar is a nice lens as well though I must admit. Only exiting mine to get the Summicron.
