wparsonsgisnet Posted March 12, 2007 Share #1  Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry to be a party pooper. I like seeing M8 pix on the Digital Forum. If people are merely unhappy that there are not enuf posts on the Picture Forum, then maybe there is a way to encourage other kinds of posting on that particular forum.  I like seeing the M8 pix here. That encourages discussion of M8 issues and allows lots of technical details to be shared. I have learned enourmous amounts about pre- (that would be setup) and post-processing for my M8 shooting with the help of pictures.  One, by John Hartman, the second post at:  http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/14349-need-suggestions-regarding-studio-backlighting.html  made me so jealous of his abilities that I almost thru all my Leica's out the window. Fortunately, they don't open (whew). But I have a goal.  Regards to all,
Advertisement Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here Pix on DigiForum -- OK by me. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fjmcsu Posted March 12, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Before I invested in the M8 & accessories I used this forum to learn about the product as well as to see pictures from the camera. I stil find it harder to go to the pix forum to try & find specific output from the M8. If I want just to browse the photos for interest sake only then the pix forum works well for me .In a nut shell I really do agree with Bill about posting pictures here ; it is nice particularly when referenced by equipment used, technique etc.
atufte Posted March 12, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 12, 2007 I also think this is a good idea, and i think it will make the digital forum more attractive and even more educational...
Laki Posted March 12, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 12, 2007 hi, Â i think you forget that there also other digi-cam-users showing their photos here in the digiforum.so i dont find it more usefull to post them here where they will get lost sooner than in the photoforums. i'm for sure also interested to see other m8 users and theit photos, but as long a photo is not about a tech. problem i dont see the use to post it here. if it is about showing photos i find it better to have a specific forum to look for and thats the photo forum part here. Guest stnami Posted March 12, 2007 Share #5  Posted March 12, 2007 I have no problems with images in the digital forum, it really should be encouraged as long as they are there to instruct, assist or to press home a point. Usually one will be sufficient to press home your point   Posting because it was taken with such and such camera or this is a photo of my fridge is meaningles. Open slather destroys the point of a forum, but if that's what people want that's what will happen a endless slide show.....there are only so many pictures of Aunt Edna's trip to The Vatican we can cope with, eventually the we fall asleep
stunsworth Posted March 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Posting because it was taken with such and such camera or this is a photo of my fridge is meaningles. Agreed. At 250k max I could post a shot taken with my 5D, say it was an M8 shot, and I'd guarantee no one would say "hold on that's not taken with an M8". Â And another thing, if everyone posted their shots on this part of the forum even fewer shots would be comented on. They'd find themselves on page two in an hour or two, and to be honest when you're on page two you're history :-)
Guest stnami Posted March 12, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Steve you probably used a Leica lens ............. Â Â I have posted non leica images to back up a point and it was appropriate to the Leica digital forum as it is about technique or getting colours right etc So we have to ask what is the digital or any forum for? Is it about Leica only or are we after something more comprehensive?
norm_snyder Posted March 13, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 13, 2007 As a relatively infrequent author of posts, I have come to rely on the digital forum for information about workflow, examples of what others are managing with the M8, and an opportunity to explain, using a couple of images of mine, concerns I had or examples of things that are difficult to convey using words alone. After all, this is about the images, not the specifications. The forum dedicated to images only does not, as others have already observed, encourage the participation of those with shared interest at the same level, in addition to being at times cumbersome to utilize. This forum, including its posted images, has moved me to participate, rather than lurk in the background.
ron110n Posted March 13, 2007 Share #9  Posted March 13, 2007 I like seeing M8 pix on the Digital Forum  We posted tons of D1, D2 and LC1 snaps here back 04', remember?  Are we there yet!!!  -Ron
wparsonsgisnet Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted March 13, 2007 I have learned more from this DigiForum in the past 6 months than in the previous several years. It is surprising how much information can be seen in a jpg that's been downsized for the web. Â As it happens, sceptics beware, there were some posts last fall displaying photos side-by-side from a DMR and a C---n-something. It may have been a post from Guy. Â He didn't identify which was which and asked for user judgment. I believe the majority of the forum members guessed the right camera in each photo. Â And that was only R-lenses. Â Sean Read did a review comparing the M8 with a full-frame Canon His judgment was that the Canon had the advantage for low noise, but the Leica had the advantage of superior image. Based on the images he posted, I agree fully.
Riley Posted March 13, 2007 Share #11  Posted March 13, 2007 my thoughts. .....dont do it in the end there would be nothing else but pic shows "here's 38 frames of my dog" followed by 10 people saying how nice they are  traditionally images are to assist discussion on technical points this because sometimes its the best way to evaluate/demonstrate that is ok, and not a position under threat  this is a busy forum, and if you dont visit here every day you can miss out on important discussion because of the speed of posts. Adding to that rate would be unwise.

wparsonsgisnet Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share #13  Posted March 13, 2007 Bill, I see that you promised to post some results in that thread  Jaap, I haven't forgotten. The client wanted all the shots at 16x20. I've delivered those, but as a result am in the process of comparing 3 different ways to upsize images.  When I've completed that, I'm going to post results for the other thread in a new thread about upsizing.  Regards,
jaapv Posted March 13, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted March 13, 2007 Should be interesting, Bill. I've been wondering about upsizing. There are so many options and ramifications.

This is incontrast to the photo.net Leica group where most of the regulars seemed to participate because the forum was the major element in their social life. The solution for general picture posting is, I think, to revamp the Photo Forums into a less cumbersome structure. But, hey, I this fantastic picture of my (naked) fridge...  —Mitch/Bangkok http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
