Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 12, 2007 Share #1  Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well I had to try the new WATE and couple things i noticed immediately is it is small ,light and damn good. But also the Exif data does show the focal length 16, 18 and 21 but I am seeing is no vignetting or very very little and also a biggy here i thought for sure i would see the magenta cast in these without the filter and there is NONE. Look at all the blacks in these. It does distort some but easily fixed. Check this out  All shot at ISO 640 Welcome, dear visitor! marknorton Posted March 12, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Guy - with 1.092, I'm seeing just 18mm in the info window, hadn't though to check what the EXIF header says. Are you seeing other than 18mm in those files. Was this on your own M8 or one they had, maybe a different firmware version?

dannirr Posted March 12, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Later this week I will post the results of my "harsh M8 test" I did in Namibia last week. Many of the images were with the WATE - outdoors in tough conditions. Â Summary - this lens is a keeper. For sure. Â Danni

Englander Posted March 12, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Guy, Do any of the files you shot with the WATE at focal lengths other that 16 say they are 18 or better yet 21? Yes, 21 especially. I am wondering if the typographical difference between 6 and 8 is misleading. All my WATE files read 18 no matter what focal length or combination of viewfinder frames; no matter whether read from the camera lcd or through computer software. If you are getting something different than Mark and I, that means that something has changed with the lens, not just with the firmware. That would be really important news, too. Thanks, Joe
Laki Posted March 12, 2007 Share #18  Posted March 12, 2007 joe, have a look at the exif data of the first 2 shots, one shows 16 and the other 18mm, i just wonder how thats transmitted to the camera  i tried the wate just a couple of days ago at my local dealer, still cant make up my mind though. scott kirkpatrick Posted March 12, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Guy, as noted above, the EXIF in your shots shows two values of the focal length (correctly?), but I also see that the max aperture is still 1.0, not the actual 4.0. In 1.092 at least one other lens (the 28/2.8) got its max aperture correctly listed in the EXIF, but apparently this bug isn't fixed for the WATE yet. I'll look around to see if the focal length is correctly reported for some of the WATE test shots posted before 1.092 came out or with earlier lenses.
