gmpphotography Posted August 15, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I came across a photograph which obviously shows the Ur-Leica. But upon closer inspection, the camera is definitely different from the Ur-Leica we are familiar with. The main difference is that it does not have the familiar paint chips missing. I have posterd the pictures under the same heading on my LEICA Barnack Berek Blog. I tried to post the URL, but then my comments here disappear. andybarton Posted August 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2012 Because first time posters, linking through to other sites, are more often than not spammers. The system isn't infallible.

iphoenix Posted August 17, 2012 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) In fact the system has blocked a post above. I will unblock it. Isn't modern day technology wonderful? And people ask why we keep using film . Anyway, I note that while the focus of the lenses appears to be different, both items 1 & 2 have made the same no. of exposures. The image quality difference (possibly in part due to the films in use at the time *2 was taken) might also result in masking of some of the wear in the picture. I only put this forward as a possibility. Other comments??
gmpphotography Posted August 17, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted August 17, 2012 I think the identical counter position is a coincidence. If you look closely at the position of the screws at the front of the camera body, they are different. I also noticed two screws protruding from the top of the camera's left side. These are not visible in any of the pictures of the known Ur-Leica. I should also mention that the counter position in the two color pictures of the known Ur-Leica is different. People obviously are releasing the shutter and winding the camera, as I have done at the two occasions when I was able to hold the Ur-Leica in my own hands. This was when Rolf Fricke brought the camera to one of the LHSA meetings as did Dr. Wangorsch, the former curator of the Leica museum, for the same occasion at a different time. duckrider Posted August 26, 2012 Share #10 Posted August 26, 2012 I'm lying on the floor caused by the question "Is this a big deal". Nice to read, but ain't it possible that a UrLeica Copy from Leitz prentices build in the early 80s, a little colour scratches of and picture taken with bad resolution? Always sceptical Thomas ...if not so, what value might it have, if a pre series Leica brings 2,16 M€?
