jscolman Posted March 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, this is my "Street Walking" D-Lux-3. It has a CV Mini Finder, because how can it be a Leica without a viewfinder?, a lens hood from (I hate to say) Sigma, and I added another strap lug so it hangs correctly! I think this is a great camera. Thanks, Jim. http://www.photoday.scolman.com http://www.scolman.com Welcome, dear visitor! jscolman Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi, thanks for the comments. Yes the view finder is a CV Mini-Finder 28/35, from Cameraquest.com. Thanks, Jim
msnyc Posted March 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2007 How did you put on your second lug?
phillipgeorge Posted March 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 30, 2007 With the 28/35 finder you can make use of the 35mm brightline by placing a small dot on the inner (rotating) barrel and toggling the zoom lever until the dot is at the top. You first need to adjust the zoom until the viewfinder matches the LCD screen at 35mm before marking the barrel at the top. If this is confusing, just toggle the zoom lever and you will see what I mean...

Iron Flatline Posted March 31, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 31, 2007 Yes, please answer all the questions above. I just ordered this camera, and the Viewfinder idea is brilliant, as is the lens hood. Please give us more details about your mods.
photorunner Posted March 31, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 31, 2007 I like what you've done with the D-lux3. I just upgraded from the D-Lux 2. I would like to know if you shoot in RAW? If so what workflow do you use? I have C1 but there doesn't seem to have any specific profile for this camera. Most of my pictures are shot in high res jpg since I don't know how to optimize the RAW file image. I'm not as adept as some of the people in this forum with digital image manipulation. jscolman Posted April 2, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted April 2, 2007 Yes, please answer all the questions above. I just ordered this camera, and the Viewfinder idea is brilliant, as is the lens hood. Please give us more details about your mods. Hi All, for the hood I found a flexible rubber/plastic lens cap that fit, then cut out the center , so now I have a ring that fits over the lens. I then found a lens hood that fit on or over the ring and attached it with Gorilla Glue, then I cleaned up any spots with a black Sharpie. All of the "extra" parts are held on with the glue and they all seem to be ok. The other question, RAW or JPG, the answer is the classic, "It Depends". Most of my street work, which is most of this camera, is shot in JPG at whatever ISO is called for, mostly using the "A" program. Most of my shots are displayed on the web so the JPG is more than adequate. I have made some prints and they look good too. My post processing is done with Photoshop CS, which does not "see" the Leica RAW files, so I was using the beta of Lightroom and will buy the full app, as it does work with the Leica RAW files. Any other questions gladly answered. Thanks Jim, http://www.photoday.scolman.com

Herb Herb, you've probably solved this in the last two months, but your camera probably came with Photoshop Elements. If you download the Leica Raw update from Adobe, you can open the raw files in a window that gives you the ability to have the software automatically address each parameter (saturation, exposure, etc.). You can play with each parameter by disabling the "auto" function. You can always return to the default. This post can't be concluded without mentioning Levels. Once you've gotten the hang of the basics and want to really optimize the dynamic range of your images, get some training on using Levels adjustments.
