Yes. It is no big deal. If you want to replace it by leather you can easily do so yourself.

 

@ Pico. Try to get real Vulcanite replaced or repaired. Nearly impossible. I know of only one place that may -or may not- be able to do it.

And your impression is incorrect. The covering is removed and replaced.

It's good to see that they are somewhat standing behind their cameras. I've owned my M8U/P for over 5 years now and have shot over 85k images. It's maybe time to send it in for a check-up!
