Case and strap?

I haven't seen a easy open case that fits the EVF yet. I'm not sure where you're going in China but hopefully shouldn't be too wet. It certainly isn't that humid in HK anymore.

If its raining as it does out here then I'd suggest you stick it in a very waterproof carry bag. It doesn't half rain when it chooses to!

I have one of these for when it's nasty outside - Lowepro - Adventura Ultra Zoom 100

Not very pretty but fits the camera with the EVF attached and strap (as long as it isn't too long/thick).

I have one of these for my M3 and a couple of lenses Domke F-5XB Shoulder/Belt Canvas Camera Bag, Ruggedwear 70052A

It is on the smaller side of bags from Domke, and mine is the "rugged wear" dark brown waxed canvas. It repels water well, but I don't know how waterPROOF it is. The zipper under the flap is heavy duty, but it isn't weather sealed. I plan to tote my X2 in it when out and about shooting, expecially if it is accompanying my M3. Aside from that, I second Rich's recommendation about LowePro. Look for the "AW" (all-weather) models. They come with a removeable rain cover I believe. I have owned a few over the years for various cameras and they are very well made, if somewhat utilitarian and not classically pleasing to the eye. I picked up this one the other day just to have something to keep the X2 in for it's daily rides in my backpack or messenger bag... Lowepro - Rezo 50 No help for the VF though, haven't figured that one out yet. I'll just have the OVF initially, so that one can hide anywhere. I ordered the 1" Domke "Gripper" strap for $18-20 and it is low-key - very nice. I have the $35 Leica nylon strap on my M3 currently, but I'll decide which gets which when the X2 gets here. I like the look of the A&A silk strap, but that's a little spendy just yet. It gets rave reviews on the forums though.

A few thoughts on a strap for the X... I really like the thin leather strap that came with the X2, I just wish it were a little longer because I like to carry my cameras cross-body. It helps them hide underneath when wearing a light jacket, vest or unbuttoned overshirt. That and I feel like a tool wearing the strap around my neck like a tourist at Disney World. My M3 is away in North Carolina with Gus Lazarri having the vulcanite replaced, so I took the Leica strap Leica 14312 Carry Strap with Anti Slip Pad for M Camera 14312 I use on it and tried it on the X2. It's perfect! Plenty light and flexible enough, and the pad isn't overly grippy as to jerk your shirt around when you bring the camera up to your eye. I was concerned that the X2 wouldn't be heavy enough to be a good match for this strap, but my concerns were unfounded. I picked up a Domke Gripper 1" strap Domke Gripper Camera Strap, 1in w/o Swivel, Tan 7406TN1 a couple of weeks ago and I'll give it a try on the M3. It will have to be something really special though to prevent me from ordering another Leica strap.

not exactly a case, but im using this on vacation to carry the X2 in my pocket.

Mine is the small version of this:

RED MICROFIBER BAG (Medium)

I dont see it listed in the store, but I'm sure its available.

And the camera strap is also an improve...found an old trade show badge holder as I haven't found a suitable strap yet.

Those plastic quick-release buckles make me nervous. I don't trust them, either on a wrist strap or a shoulder strap. I had one let go a long time ago, but luckily I was shooting at the time so I had the camera in my hand. Picked up a tip from an old Leica manual from the 1950's and I sometimes wrap the shoulder strap around my right wrist to eliminate slack and draw the strap tight against my back to help steady the camera for slow shutter speeds. That's when the buckle failed. Another reason I like the Leica strap :D

I have one and learned that it is not water proof while carrying in a hard rain on a bicycle. Now I keep a couple plastic bags rolled up inside just in case. In all other regards it is a good, rugged bag.

I've heard good things about the Luigi cases. Spendy, though!

As they say - "You get what you pay for". :) It may be pricey but I wanted quality and he is rated the best around. Takes a bit of time to get it, but its hand made.

I'm sure you're going to love it Sam. Hope to see a photo soon with your X2 all dressed up!

Jeff

Over the weekend I inquired about the status of my case with Luigi - he said he will be shipping it out of Italy to me in the states this weekend. Its been a month. I should have it next week then. I am looking forward to it and will post some pics of it soon.

Back to the LowePro Rezo 60 I mentioned above. It came in and it's a much better fit than the 50. See photos below. I know they're hard to look at and I apologize for the iPhone photos and the blown highlights but they should convey the point for quick desk shots. The first photo shows the front flap with my Leica OVF in it's little pouch. Plenty of room left for an extra battery and SD cards. There is at least a half inch free space above the camera when it's standing on end inside there. I even tried it inside with the OVF attached and it fit. It's not a pretty thing, but the padding is good and it is a cheap solution on the belt or to toss it into a backpack or suitcase when not in use.

Very slick Sam! Are you pleased with it so far?

Jeff

Yes, very pleased. He did forget to send me the wrist strap, but thats on the way and should be here in a couple of days. I was very impressed with the shipping speed. It showed up via fedex from Italy near Rome. It left July 31st at 6:00 PM and I received it today at 10:30 AM. Now that was fast.

Its perfect IMO and I see no flaws in the case. Its exactly as I expected it to be. I wanted the old-fashioned natural aged brown look and thats what I got. It does take a lot of time to have him make it though and patience is important. Its hand made and its a good 30+ days before you get it in your hands. I prefer handmade rather than mass produced. It supports the artist and his craftsmanship. I encourage that work ethic and would prefer to buy it in that fashion. I didn't want no chinese knockoff. From what i have seen out there, and researching this case issue for a while, his is the best and probably the most expensive there is. But thats expected for the best and it is a real masterpiece. I have the case and its a masterpiece. I dont regret my choice at all.

I also have found that today shooting - was so much nicer with the grip. Its difficult to shoot without the grip with one hand as you can drop the camera if your not careful. If you have the grip - you can shoot with one hand now. I am also pleased with the battery opening and stainless steel tripod mount. Its perfect.

If you want a handmade case built in Italy by someone who has been doing this forever and have patience for him to make it - go with Luigi. He is the best. If you are not patient and you just want a case then there are a lot of others to choose from and cheaper and you can get it quicker. I was in no hurry for my case. I wanted the best and wanted it handmade - and crafted in Italy- well thats just the icing on the cake.

Thanks for looking and reading,

Sam
