stuny Posted March 10, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2007 Rob - Both gorgeous, both have terrific framing, details, tonal range and selective focus. I prefer the civilian -- More character, and wonderful range of tones on the face.
visiondr Posted March 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2007 Very nice portraits. I'd only add that I'd like just a tiny bit more depth of focus in the shot of the soldier/policeman. I'd like just a bit more detail in his facial features. Well done!
Rolo Posted March 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2007 Top man - great portraits. Like a bit more of the shadow detail in no. 2, but it does work as it is. Nice. Rolo

rob_x2004 Posted March 11, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks. I was actually going to bin both images for the reasons picked out above, f/stop. Aperture priority brain in the bucket. Disappointing because, while you have to be circumspect about the stories you are given, I know at least part of the history of both these guys who only live an alley way apart, and the images hold more for me than the pictures. While I was happy with the composition, clearly failed to understand or appreciate my gear. At least needed to step back a pace to allow a bit of distance for the fifty, and gain depth of field, would also allow crop. Lost the plot, and filled the frame, wider aperture though not wide open. Sharpness is subtle, both look fine as prints. Deceipt of eye, with the massive change to out of focus behind head, even the ears seem sharp, though clearly out of focus. Thanks all, and will engage technical part of brain next opportunity.
imported_peter_m Posted March 12, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 12, 2007 Excellent portraits Rob! Just a hair more depth of field would have been nice, but I sure would be happy if they would be mine. Peter
