mpathy Posted July 11, 2012 Share #1  Posted July 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK - I've had it a week and love the X2. I can't put it down. Exactly what I was looking for with IQ that exceeds my big dSLR, very discrete, solid build, simple out-of-the-way functioning, a design that has my design studio friend salivating, and silent - amazingly so. Except. For. Lens clicking.  Is anyone else getting this with their X2 or X1? Is this just the nature of live view cameras? Have I been spending too much time "away" with the M6? It's not crazy loud or continuous (like some other cameras we have heard about). I have seen no reports on it anywhere on the web so it either means a) I'm incredibly obsessive (but isn't that a typical Leica user? ) and should get over it or I'm the only one who has this happening. I also noticed that it's a pretty common issue across many quality makes of camera including Olympus, Fuji and even the Nikon D800. I also contacted Leica NA technical service (not Solms at this point) and was told it's a "known characteristic" and "not a defect". Well. OK then. I guess I can feel all better now  To confirm:  - Very quiet clicking - not obnoxiously loud. i.e no one notices it unless I point it out. - It's somewhat infrequent; but does occur when the camera's aim is moved through somewhat significant changes in lighting or when set to Spot metering. - Happens whether OVF is on/off (LCD on/off), live histogram on/off.  I thought I would check my sanity (or if there is a quick setting fix) with the community before I just "move along". ECliffordSmith Posted July 13, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted July 13, 2012 Hi, Â The behaviour you describe is normal and is just the lens stopping down as the light changes.
wda Posted July 13, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted July 13, 2012 mpathy, welcome to the forum! You notice a sound. Others around you do not hear a sound. Quite typical in my experience. I have never considered my X1 audibly noisy.

AJB Posted July 13, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted July 13, 2012 Our X1 and X2 both make an almost inaudible sound. I would not describe it as "chatter", more of a discreet mechanical whirr that you have to concentrate to notice. In fact, until your post I had not noticed it! mpathy Posted July 14, 2012 Author Share #7 Â Posted July 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you for all of your comments everyone (and for welcoming me to the forum!) ---- I can now breathe easier lol. Â And to further confirm, I just returned from a meeting where I had brought it to take some candids. Out of the many, many compliments on the X2, one included, "wow, that is one silent and stealthy camera!" This, after I had taken several photos of them (two people standing right in front of and staring directly at me) without them knowing it(!); and getting some nice, uninhibited expressions as a result. Exactly what I was looking for. Â I've received the message. I will now officially relax.
