X2 or Fuji x pro-1

Taking the theme of the thread title, a friend of ours has the X1 pro and has been using it in Mallorca. I must admit it is a beautifully engineered camera, and I do covet the lenses, some of which are quite exquisite.

However, it is not really comparable to an X2. It's quite a bit bigger and of course it is a system camera, so there is all the downside of lugging lenses about.

To me it is more readily compared with my son's Canon EOS 600D or a 60D. With L glass on it, the images are comparable to the Fuji, but the Fuji is lighter as a system and the glass is much more compact.

With a street lens of say 60mm, the short and quite fast wide angle, and one of the telephotos, it would give pretty good coverage of pretty much anything within a reasonably compact system rig. Looks good too!

Personally I would go with the X2 for portability and perfectly acceptable IQ for most purposes.

But the progress of other makes is a signal to Leica I think that they need to up their game with their upper end compact offering if and when an X3 emerges. In particular a faster lens and a much better rear screen.

Plus, I can't take a picture with an ugly camera...I just can't do it.

fortunately 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder':) and I have never had a problem with an ugly camera, personally I think the X is pretty ugly, somehow the proportions are just not right...the M is rather pretty, so was the old nikon F and even better was the 'old' canon F1, the hasselblad 500c was beautiful and so was the rolleiflex and mamiya c330, any wooden 4x5-8x10 field camera is good, i think my ZoneVI 4x5 is pretty cool looking...but hey thats just me....;)

From what I have read the Fuji glass, except the macro, is not all that great...I wouldn't say better than L glass...most dslr owners have the big and heavy but versatile zooms, after all that's what pro's want, but my personal experience in testing a 24-105 & 24-70 against the cheap 40mm pancake, the pancake beats both by far in the corners...so even L glass is not all that its made up to be...I don't think that its because its inherently bad but I think the zooms are too extreme and fast at the expense of (usually) corner sharpness..but I suppose that's par for the course for most wide angle zooms...Canons new primes seem to be much much better..

We have a big photo show here at the moment and it was my first opportunity to touch and feel the fuji's...I wasn't totally convinced although I preferred the x100 viewfinder to my x...just a lot more versatile and personally for the price there is no competition..the x1/2 is just totally overpriced for what you get...

but all these cameras are now only first or second generation..I don't think they are going to be really competitive until generation three or four...its only now that the OMD's of this world are really starting to shine...

Yes, but life is short and when waiting you do not take pictures :) actually I'm using my x1 but I'm considering to put an OM-D beside it (which will cost me less than upgrading to x2).

The proportions lok and feel a lot better, once you mount the optional grip.
