..Western Spotted Towhee/Pipilo maculatus... as Doug will tell you this bird is extremely shy and flighty . The norm, is if it sees you, its gone, it rarely will perch on a tree, as it is normally found scampering along the ground and is therefor known as a ground bird. This does make it vulnerable to our cats, so as a rule we have stopped stocking the bird feeder.

Well today, my luck held out, for the first half of the morning it was doing its usual, sees you,,bing...gone!! But at one point another male showed up, this guy then just stopped on the cherry tree and decided to fluff himself up and show off not only his feathers, songs, but his bravery. This is as close as you can get without using the extension tube with the Telyt 560mm. I managed to fire off some 70 frames before he grew tired of the noise and the attention.

Tech: R9+DMR+R Telyt 560mm F6.8+ Shoulder stock+ monopod from RAW/DNG

Thanks for looking

Thanks Iduna, yes I agree it was worth the waiting, I couldn't have expected the other male Towhee to cause this, it was a completely unexpected bonus..nature is funny that way.

Thanks for looking and posting your comment

Louis, thank you. The Telyt 560mm F6.8 is amazingly sharp combined with the DMR. Of course the proper lighting conditions helps also.

In retrospect I think Leica was wrong in abandoning the R line( and clients), yes it was in financial trouble but surely they could have delayed the R10 until the costs and technology was up to speed, which it is today. Making the stratospheric costing S2 left most people in the dust, for the likes of me I still don't get it. Surely they could have come up with something in between?

The DMR though dated, is still a remarkable engineering accomplishment to this day.

Cheers, JRM
