Koizumi13 Posted June 27, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted June 27, 2012 Improved WB? Really? It turned my AWB into a joke (indoors, at nite). The previous AWB worked great for indoors, at nite. Now I gotta grey card or manual K it to get it right. I had to manually adjust the Tungsten Build setting, too. Â I am curious to try it in the daytime. Â I'm also curious to read other people's impressions

Koizumi13 Posted June 27, 2012 Share #8  Posted June 27, 2012 This is with the ver 1.1 ISO Test Leica X2 Ver 1.1 - a set on Flickr  Can you explain the settings in your shots? Standard? Vivid? Etc. Also, are you finding your shots in AWB or Tungsten to be way off with green and some yellow?  Cheers
Spaniard69 Posted June 27, 2012 Share #9  Posted June 27, 2012 How does one unzip the file? Thanks  After you d/l the file, just drag in to the SD card. Insert the SD card in to the camera press and hold INFO button and on the camera. A screen will prompt you whether you want to update the firmware to ver 1.1. Also, are you finding your shots in AWB or Tungsten to be way off with green and some yellow?  Cheers   I have uploaded new pics today of the carriage. I have the settings on the pictures as asked. I am happy with the new version of the firmware. Its better in my opinion. Please look at the carriage pictures and you then can compare them to the carriage pictures I have up there using the version 1.0 firmware against the ver 1.1 firmware. leicarox Posted June 27, 2012 Share #14 Â Posted June 27, 2012 Do you guys feel it's easier to get sharper photos now at slow shutter speed? Â I do But it may just be wishful thinking. Â The white balance seems worse though, but I haven't taken enough photos yet to be sure.

leicarox Posted June 27, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted June 27, 2012 I don't see any difference at all in wb. Looks the same to me. sfowler Posted June 28, 2012 Share #17 Â Posted June 28, 2012 The night shot I took (indoor lighting) looked much yellower than I remembered from earlier pictures. I haven't given it a thorough workout though. Focus does seem improved. (or does it?) Â I have been doing a lot of testing and its pretty intense if you ask me. The WB looks the same in all my new shots from the older shots using V1.0. The sharpness and quality has improved in my shots as well. I have looked at my pics from a couple of days ago on v1.0 on my carriages and the recent shots today - the ISO is way better now than what it was before. I mean I have shots that are 12500 ISO that look extremely better than the old version 1.0. shots I tested this in Natural, B/W both versions, Vivid and even Standard. Each and every one that is taken using the V1.1 firmware is better than v1.0 - Clearly better. I also feel the shots are faster -but that was never really an issue for me. I am not doing sports shots or anything that requires super fast shooting. If I wanted that I would use my SLR for sports and such quick shots of that type. This update firmware is an improvement in my book. I am glad I have updated my firmware and I was hesitant at first but due to my recent shots today and comparing them to my shots a few days ago - the new firmware is better at the moment. I am currently pleased with it and don't want ver 1.0 back. Take a look at my pics that are with the carriage and have both pics up on the screen one from ver1.0 and one from ver 1.1 of same ISO and type and you will see its better with the ver 1.1. The proof is right there and I have asked many people today there preference of which photos they would choose was better and they all chose ver 1.1 as a better looking picture even with all that noise. I agree with them. The carriages were inside a building with no lights - besides some ambient light coming in thru the half door that I was standing at. It was basically a horse corral where horses would stay and they have half doors. So I placed my camera on the half door to take all these shots in the same spot as a few days ago with the carriages. So the lighting is the same on all shots basically. It was a very dark room where the carriages were located. So low lighting is really good with this camera. I highly doubt I would ever really use this 12500 ISO - but if I had to -I would not ever feel bad using it as it handles noise beautifully. I am very pleased with Firmware ver 1.1. I highly recommend it. Â Just my opinion. Â Sam
Koizumi13 Posted June 28, 2012 Share #18 Â Posted June 28, 2012 Interesting to see the comparison photos. Â My thoughts thus far are that the WB and AWB are super yellow indoors relative to 1.0 firmware. In fact, it's so yellow, that it is a real annoyance correcting each 'event' manually. I really don't get what Leica was attempting to do. Firmware 1.1 has effectively ruined any sort of near approximation of correct AWB. And the tungsten bulb setting is now useless unless corrected manually. I tried shots with all kinds of different temp indoor bulbs--the net auto settings are wholly unacceptable. Â I'm really scratching my head on v1.1 when it comes to indoor nite shots. Somehow the tweaks made to rectify or ameliorate some daytime WB has totally killed off nite shooting WB. Â This is bad news for me, since 75% of what I use the X2 for is nite shots.

Koizumi13 Posted June 28, 2012 Share #20 Â Posted June 28, 2012 Can you show me some comparisons of before and after? Â I will post detailed pics later this evening. I have a dinner/drinks affair I have to go to shortly. I'm very curious about how I'm going to manually adjust WB quickly in the field when I'm dealing with ultra-short moments to make adjustments. Â Cheers
