tappan Posted June 26, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know if the M-Monochrom leatherette is more similar to the vulcanite leatherette or the smooth MP style that are offered on the M9-p upgrade? Advertisement Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Hi tappan, Take a look here Regarding the M-Monochrom leatherette. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IWC Doppel Posted June 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 26, 2012 M9-P Vulcanite coarser and shinier than M9-P replacement, but similar M9M much finer, smoother and more like leather. Very nice actually

Very nice actually I don't understand the question or this response. The M9 silver grey and the MP have this black, sand-papery, shark skin covering that I don't really like very much. The vulcanite offered on the M9P upgrade is like the traditional M3 vulcanite (it is different, I know) - it is more textured, it is shiny and has a more tactile feel to it. It is also more like the traditional vulcanite that covered the original M3, and lenses from the 1950s and 60s. I understand the M Monochrom is covered with the same vulcanite as the M9P. Cheers John John, the monochrome has a finer finish, notably different. Even the picture above demonstrates this. There is no longer 'vulcanite' available the replacement is a little different, less glossy and a little smoother. http://lavidaleica.com/content/leica-change-m-camera-leatherette

Leica to Change M Camera Leatherette | La Vida Leica! Yes, I read about the discontinued vulcanite, yet I got my M9P covered in September last year, and identical covering on my M3 in February this year. Now, it may be all in a name, but side by side the M3 & M9P have identical (to my eye) coverings. In the image, the covering does look a bit smoother than what I have, but I suspect it's splitting hairs. It's nothing like the sandpaper covering on the M9 and MP. IWC Doppel Posted June 27, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 27, 2012 You are correct regarding the 'sand paper' finish my M9-P is covered with a different finish to the M9M I'll take a picture and post shortly

Hi There the MM covering is nothing like the M9p vulcanite or the nasty sandpapery stuff - it's soft to the touch and grippy - it feels slightly as if it has some soft material underneath (actually it's the same as the black covering on the X2). I rather like it - but it's quite different. all the best
