I switched my VPN server to the USA and promptly found that it was unavailable for technical reasons anyway...

If you want to go to a scary place (Tony's Brain) then keep reading: I know I've been in the Army too long because I've got a mental decision matrix developed around the 'camera' issue... From Starting Point of trying out the Zorki: Do I like rangefinders - if yes then save up for a Leica, if no then buy a prime or two for the Nikon a snap away in ignorant bliss Do I like film - if yes then get an early M, if no then get an X2 (or if I REALLY like rangefinders then M8 or save up a really long time for a M9). Pheww, I bet you're a hoot in the Supermarket ? There's this place, Digitaltruth in Houston, Tx. It's called Adonol but exactly the same as Rodinal Adox Adonal (Agfa Rodinal) - 500ml - Agfa - Digitaltruth Photo Just be double, triple and quadruple sure this is for you before ordering a ton of kit, or I won't be able to live with the guilt. Jaap, I tried all manner of IP trickery. This explains why it didn't work P.S. I just saw your main profile picture. jneilt Posted June 27, 2012 Share #85 Posted June 27, 2012 Just to support what others have said- I have an M9 and MP. I wear glasses-and have an astigmatism. I live in the southern US and don't read instructions carefully. My 5 year old processed films of her birthday by following my instructions. I got my film cans on ebay for nothing. The cameras are fun. I take better photos with them vs with auto-everything cameras. They are not inexpensive.
Cadfael_tex Posted June 28, 2012 Author Share #86 Posted June 28, 2012 I had decided tentatively if I didn't go back to film I'd get an X2. When I got my D40 I almost got a Digilux 3 but went with the D40 because of Ken Rockwell's site. Now, I find myself leaning towards an Oly OM-D after reading Steve Huff. So am I about to make a huge mistake?
SJP Posted June 28, 2012 Share #87 Posted June 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yep, buy the S3 with all lenses.
Cadfael_tex Posted June 28, 2012 Author Share #88 Posted June 28, 2012 So, SJP are you going to buy a kidney for enough for me to do that :roll eyes: BTW, I've decided I can comfortably do film and digital and may/will by some developing stuff in the near future. I'll buy digital first as it will be easier for the rest of the family to use right now.
Cadfael_tex Posted July 7, 2012 Author Share #89 Posted July 7, 2012 So I have my gateway drugs to get me hooked on leica in place - having so much fun with the Zorki and love rangefinder and got an OM-D digital and plan to get an M lens adapter for it when I can. So, next step, I need to start looking at Leica lenses. What would be a good M (or even LTM) lens to get me further down this road to selling the kids to get more Leica? ETA: First roll from the Zorki at the developers. Realized that two of my favorite images on my oldest were done with my Nikon F2 on FILM - who knew - sheesh. Cadfael_tex Posted July 7, 2012 Author Share #91 Posted July 7, 2012 A 35mm Summaron f2.8 ( not f3.5 if you can find a 2.8 ) Did a quick look at it and definitely looks like it will suit my needs. Thanks Andy.
Cadfael_tex Posted July 9, 2012 Author Share #92 Posted July 9, 2012 So, I'm trying to get used to the OM-D and so far not really liking the results. The autofocus isn't doing as well as I had read. I'm pouring through loads of menus to 'optimize' the settings. My wife doesn't like it because the iAuto settings give underexposed, washed out, supremely unsharp results thus far. I'm really quite disappointed, my old Nikon D40 served me a lot better. I'm thinking about taking it back and getting an X100, X1 Pro, or X1/2. BTW, the dealer I got my Om-D from is a Leica dealer. Guest Ming Rider Posted July 9, 2012 Share #94 Posted July 9, 2012 .The autofocus isn't doing as well as I had read. I'm pouring through loads of menus to 'optimize' the settings. All these modern 'digitals' are like tins of mass-produced tomato soup, full of unneeded ingredients that only serve to spoil the 'flavour'. Leica's are just tomatoes and a touch of cream. Yummy and very refreshing.
Cadfael_tex Posted July 10, 2012 Author Share #95 Posted July 10, 2012 So do I even want to ask about the Fuji's on here What kind of soup/sushi are they?

Cadfael_tex Posted July 10, 2012 Author Share #97 Posted July 10, 2012 My problem with the X2 is that it doesn't have an OVF and I'd have to use a blasted EVF or LCD.
IkarusJohn Posted July 11, 2012 Share #98 Posted July 11, 2012 My problem with the X2 is that it doesn't have an OVF and I'd have to use a blasted EVF or LCD. Why? The 36mm optical viewfinder (part 18707) fits onto the hotshoe.
