lm_user Posted June 15, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 90mm Elmar which is designed for A36 filters (not the E39). I currently use the lens on a M3, but would like to use the lens on a M8. Â Can I use a 34mm to 39mm step up ring on the internal threads of a 90mm Elmar in lieu of the A36 to 39mm adapter? Â Thanks
Advertisement Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hi lm_user, Take a look here 90mm Elmar E39 Filter Adapter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kokoshawnuff Posted June 16, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted June 16, 2012 Not tried it, but the 34 to 39 step up ring may cause some vignetting...though perhaps not. Step up rings are quite cheap so may be worth a try unless someone else responds with more experience and knowledge than myself
bocaburger Posted June 16, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted June 16, 2012 I'll have to take a look at my 90 Elmar (it's the chrome one with Vulcanite strip around the base) but I don't recall it even having internal threads in front. If yours does, and the pitch is the same as an adapter, and the threads start close enough to the lip that the adapter engages, then I doubt if you'll get any vignetting using a 34-39 step-up and a 39 filter. Not on a 90 or 135, and I bet not on a 50 either. On a 35, maybe, but not for certain. Â Or you could look for a SOOGZ, which clamps on like an A36 and has e39 female threads. Some of them also have a shallow groove running around the outside which engages the claws of a clip-on lens hood. These adapters are getting pricey now, though. KEH has a couple HERE, and I found THIS ONE on the auction site.
