M8 and LTM Nikkor 135 filter issue

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if 'Modern' 43mm filters with thread right onto a Nikkor Q 135mm lens with 43mm threads?

My google searches have only been able to confirm Nikkor Q 135's of this version had series vii filters eg:43mm -but- I can't find confirmation as to whether I can just thread a brand new filter on the front. The seller doesn't have any modern 43mm filters to confirm for me and I'd like to know what accessories I need to buy should there be a thread pitch problem.

BTW: It's a LTM lens and I plan to use it for color photography on an M8 and I know for a fact the situation demands using an ir cut filter or all the uniforms are a mess.

Sincerely

Richard in Michigan

I would suggest you refer this to the members of the Rangefinder Forum if you do not get an answer.

The only lenses I have ever heard of having a non standard pitch were for Leica CL. I have an 85 Nikkor RF lans from the same era that uses standard 48 mm.

43mm is closest to ser VI. Ser VII is 54mm

Make sure you get one with threads for the shade. B+W 486 is double threaded.

Hi Tobey,

well, the seller says it comes with an old 43mm Soligor brand filter that screws on just fine, but he doesn't have any modern filters to answer my thread pitch concerns. I think I will just go ahead and order the B&W 486 from a good retailer who will take it back if it's wrong. B&H my old friend, my charge card is coming to visit you again :).

As for the lens, if it takes pictures half as well as it looks I'll be quite happy with my purchase. It has a nice black paint and satin chrome finish that should be eye catching on my black m8.

Sincerely

Richard Ward

Modern 43mm filters work fine with the classic Nikkor lenses. I use a B&W IR cut filter with my Nikkors, no problems. The two-piece SunShade that came with the 13.5cm F3.5 has a filter holder built in, series VII.

Thanks Brian,

I ordered up a B+W 43mm uv/ir filter from B&H that arrived 3 days before my Lens Did. It threaded right on with no problem. A poster over at RFF said his experience was that B+W and Marumi filters worked equally well on his classic and modern Nikkors, but while the Hoya and Kenko's he's tried worked perfectly on his modern NIkkors, but only thread part way on his classic glass.

BTW: I am really liking this lens so far :-).

Sometimes it seems the thickness of the threads can be an issue, in addition to the pitch of the threads. Can drive you crazy. I just have lots of filters.

I use a 52mm Tiffen Hot Mirror filter on the 10.5cm F2.5. Works great. These were introduced at the time of the early digital cameras, which also have an issue with IR leakage.
