Recommended international carrier from UK?

I use DHL for my one man business, sending delicate items overseas. Touch wood nothing has been broken or misplaced so far, and after many years.

I go through the 'DHLit' web site, and you get 10% off if you put in the promo code DHLSAVE when asked. You can also pay with PayPal which keeps Ebay sales neat and tidy. I think the big advantage with a company like DHL is that they have planes going all over the world with only their parcels on board. Unlike when I have sent parcels by Parcelforce when it can take days just for them to leave the UK. DHL regularly do UK to the USA or even Australia in 48 hrs door to door.

Alex, I could, of course, but I'm afraid it would be just my luck for the postman to get out of his van, trip over a dog, get run over by the milkman and fall in the river on the other side of the road, all the while clutching the precious MP! :)

Pete, I went to my local Mail Boxes Etc., who were very helpful. They would use Fed-Ex, insure it themselves for full value and pack to Fed-Ex specs. Not cheap, but pretty much hassle free. They prefer not to use Parcelforce any more although they will still quote for them. All the carriers are close in terms of cost. The difference is the cost and type of insurance cover.

I await a response from the potential buyer, who will be one lucky guy if he goes for it.

Thanks all for your help and participation. I'll let you know how it goes - for future reference.

Steve, you obviously have a lot of experience of shipping, which I don't. Thanks for your suggestion.

I had a look at your photos on Flicker. Great! I especially love the mono pictures. How do you like the Olympus OM5-ED (or whatever snappy name they have for it!)? Are you using their lenses, or Leica's?

Sorry for the OT.

Thank you Tim. Love the E-M5 (or whatever it is called) using both Oly and Leica lenses. It is a camera that exceeds all my expectations, I'm so glad I didn't go for a NEX 7 etc.
