binaryman Posted July 20, 2006 Share #21 Posted July 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great the successor of the FX01 has been announced... But the FX01 itself was only released earlier this year and the Leica equivalent also. So now we have these new models in July this year. I was just about to buy a C-Lux1. Now I am in a quandry. If I buy the new model now then possibly in another 5 - 6 months time there will be the successor to that model again. In my opinion they bring out too many new models too quickly after each other forcing you to update and buy a new model every 6 months. And what's with the FX07 ?????? and FX50?????? We had FX1 up to FX9 Then suddenly there was the FX01. Now there is the FX07 and a FX50 These model sequences dont make any sense to me any more...???? Advertisement Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Hi binaryman, Take a look here d-lux 2 and c-lux 1 successors announced today ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
petermcwerner Posted July 20, 2006 Author Share #22 Posted July 20, 2006 I think it's interesting to note that all of this pictures were taken at ISO 100 in relatively bright light. What I really want to see is pictures taken with an ISO setting of 800 in dim light. Even at ISO=100 there are ugly artifacts. At first sight they increased noise suppression even at low ISO instead of putting a better (and bigger) sensor that has less instrinsic noise
humanized_form Posted July 20, 2006 Share #23 Posted July 20, 2006 i guess if you don't own a d-lux2/lx-1 the "upgraded" cameras are worth considering, but as someone who does own the now discontinued model i will save my money for an upgrade which actually matters. hmm... matter of fact if i didn't own an lx-1, i think i would rather search one out on ebay etc than pay for this new model. adding more megapixels to the same sized sensor doesn't improve the image quality. makes the files bigger though. marknorton Posted July 20, 2006 Share #24 Posted July 20, 2006 I think the P&S market is more like the fashion and mobile phone market than the traditional camera market. Short production runs, rapid product turnover, completely at odds with Leica's traditional values. Just as the Digilux 2 and D-Lux 2 are out of production, the C-Lux 1 may be too, just stockpiled in a warehouse somewhere.
drralph Posted July 22, 2006 Share #25 Posted July 22, 2006 I read the press release for teh new LX2, but don't see any reference to the expected price or date of availability. Has either of these been published anywhere? I bought a D-Lux 2 a few months ago, and my daughter really likes it. So I plan to get her the LX2 when it comes out, as it seems to retain all the strengths of the D-Lux 2, and improve on many of it's weaknesses. Still the only pocket camera to offer RAW, which is very important to me.
Luis Cruz Posted July 24, 2006 Share #26 Posted July 24, 2006 Im new to photography looking in to buy a good camera that can shoot raw format and is some what compact to take with me on my honneymoon in October. I was about to buy a leica D-lux2 after reading so much about it on the forums but now I see this new camera from Panasonic, Can some one help me? I don't know if I should wait and buy the Panasonic or just go and get a D-lux 2. Is the Panasonic LX and the Leica D-lux the same camera? Is body style the only difference? I found this info about the LX2: Panasonic unveils DMC-FX3, DMC-FX07, DMC-LX2, DMC-FZ50 shooters - infoSync World The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Full size images (2) » You'll never have to back up to get everyone into a group shot again with Panasonic's Lumix DMC-LX2. This compact digicam offers a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens, a wide 16:9 CCD, and a 2.8-inch, 16:9 wide aspect ratio LCD. Retro styling, a 4X optical zoom to get you even closer, 10-megapixel resolution, and Panasonic's Intelligent ISO Control (IIC) finish up this shooter's impressive list of features. Price and availability The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 will be available in September 2006 and priced at $499.
drralph Posted July 24, 2006 Share #27 Posted July 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the Panasonic LX and the Leica D-lux the same camera? Is body style the only difference? Yes, the Leica and the Panasonic are essentially the same camera. Panasonic makes the body, and Leica supplies the lens. They each market a version of the camera carrying their own label. The Leica has a more asthetically appealing body design, and of course the all important red dot. The Leica comes with Adobe Elements 3.0, which is not the latest version, but allows processing of the RAW images. Older versions of Photoshop do not process these images. I believe the Panasonic has a different (and inferior) software bundle. The instruction manual for my Leica seems specific for the camera, but the Panasonic may have the same book with different identifiers (?). I expect that there will be a Leica version of the Lumix DMC-LX2, but when is anybody's guess. The Leica version of these cameras runs about $250 more than the Panasonic version. Sounds like the pricing is the same as the previous generation. The new camera seems significantly better than the old one, and I plan to wait for the new model before I buy a second camera for my daughter. Luis Cruz Posted July 24, 2006 Share #28 Posted July 24, 2006 Thanks a lot!! this is a great help for me, I'm more worrie about the quality control than the sofware, since I work on an art department for a skateboard company I get my hands on new versions of Adobe CS bundle and creative sofware from apple (Final Cut Pro etc..) . I do love Leica design! a hole lot better than the Panasonic one if they both made at the same place and have the same quality control is going to be hard for me to rationalize paying more for the Leica one.... I'm going to save my money and wait till October and see if leica comes out with a D-lux 3 to compare with the LX2. In the mean time I will spend my time reading this forums and learning about photography so wen I do get the camera I know what to do with it! Thanks again! -Luis
fotografr Posted July 24, 2006 Share #29 Posted July 24, 2006 Interesting how Panasonic talk about reduced noise at high ISO settings with the LX2 but all the sample images we see are done at 100 ISO.
salvatore Posted July 24, 2006 Share #30 Posted July 24, 2006 This black camera is very nice, with an APS sensor and a optical viewfinder could be the perfect compact, but...
