StephenPatterson Posted June 9, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted June 9, 2012 Â All I can say is that I prefer this to the puke yellow Hermes edition. At least this one is U-Boat grey...
philipus Posted June 9, 2012 Share #4  Posted June 9, 2012 I can understand collectors' editions where there's a purpose or a reason for the edition. There could be something to commemorate, an event like His Majesty King Bhumiphol Adulyadej's of Thailand 50-year jubilee (speaking of which why hasn't there been a Queen Elizabeth M3??). Or a particular "thing" like the bridge across the Öresund or even a car, like the Jaguar XK. Or even just a year, like the various Millennium editions celebrating the year 2000.  But here we have a dealer who has ordered a camera set according to own cosmetic specifications. It has been done in the past of course, for instance with the M6TTL green paint.  At least one gets a certificate of authenticity.  Speaking of colours, I remember seeing a Saab Aero a few years back in a nice grey colour that seemed odd somehow. I wondered why someone would buy a car in such a boring, like an overcast day, grey. Then I realised that it is the same nuance that Saab uses on some of its fighter jets. I could imagine buying such a car just for the colour.  But I would never but a camera like this, even if I had the money.
lumen Posted June 9, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted June 9, 2012 I quite like this colour of camera- aesthetically, not so much for the historical connotations. The Leica MP Taiwan Centenary certainly grew on me after much idle looking. Â I imagine many of these editions are 'ordered' from dealers or agencies rather than originate in house though- from what I gather here it appears that some collaboration occurs with design, although I'm not too sure what happened with this one. Just to pile on some more, here are a couple ordered for the Japanese market, red and white. So many choices!
lars_bergquist Posted June 9, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted June 9, 2012 It's OK with me (a) as long as Leica Camera A.G. makes good money from this business, and ( as long as it does not divert scarce production capacity away from buyers who actually want to take pictures. Â It is not illegal to defraud fools, it's illegal only to break the law. And if the fools are very rich, it's not even immoral.
