UV IR Cut Filters Delivery

I just received a UV IR filter I ordered from Germany for my third M lens, and it took a month to arrive after shipping. That was very slow. So if indeed Leica has began shipping their filters in late February, it is quite possible that we won't be seeing these until the end of March. I took a couple of shots with the new filter on my 50mm Hexanon, and it really does the job. I'm happy.

Cheers,

I sent one of the M8 camera protectors to a forum member who lives in California and it took 3 days. I sent it on Monday, he received it on Thursday, so i don't understand how a filter can take a month from Europe to the US!

They have to hit US customs first and they maybe coming into NJ first because of customs otherwise they may have to fill out custom forms for each person. PITA that woud be. That is my guess

I recently had a package delivered from Germany in two days. Wilfredo's retailer in Germany probably took its time shipping the filter -- or maybe it didn't really have it stock, but just on order.

Guy, a customs form must be filled out, but it's rare if merchandise is physically checked.

Mark from my days at working at Honeywell which builds avoinics for aircraft any time they exported a package a custom form had to be filled out . This may also be true for German manufactuers to export to the US that a custom form must be made on each individual package. My bet is Germany sent them to leica USA to ship out in the states . Makes much more sense at least my guess at it.

There may not be any checking but look at the hassle to do it for 5 thousand people or whatever the number is. that is a lot of paperwork and would make it a very slow process. Things can sit in customs for day salso.

Guy,

Wilfredo was referring to a purchase he made from a German photo retailer, not the free filters from Leica.

Yep, that would create a lot of paperwork! Maybe Leica is handling it like the 30-percent discounted lenses and shipping bulk to New Jersey; then out to individual customers (as you suggested earlier in this thread).

It maybe a customs issue for them but can't be sure exactly how they going to handle it but there a lot of free filters to be delievered. basically everyone that bought a M8 and also for dealers for stock to sell

I've ordered filters from FotoHuppert and received them in 5-6 days via priority mail (I'm in the NE USA). A magnifier ordered from Megaperls in Japan came in 3 days, but that was EMS mail (cost $10).

I purchased this B+W filter through E-bay. Some of you may remember I needed help translating the German e-mails I got from the retailer. They shipped the filter on the 6th of February in a pretty big box for a filter (a bit of overkill) and it got here to California yesterday. Pop Flash could have gotten me the same filter but they told me it would take six weeks. As it turns out the whole transaction took about six weeks any way. It is not a common size (40.5mm) for the 50mm Hexanon so it is not an easy UV IR filter to find here in the U.S. Why it took so long especially when they charged so much for shipping is beyond me, but I'm glad it is finally here. Now for the Leica filters...

Upon careful examination, the filter I just got has some hair thin scratches. At first I thought it might be a finger print, but it didn't come off after cleaning. I won't bother sending it back, these folks only communicate in German and God only know's how long it would take to get a replacement, so on two counts, I would not order from these folks again. I don't think this will affect the pictures so I'll live with the annoyance of a less than perfect brand new filter.
