Lightroom

I attempted to load it yesterday, all appears fine until I try to open the application... there follows a series of things which happen too quick for me to see and then I get a message about Lightroom having experienced the unexpected and having to close!

Ho hum...

I managed to load it, no problems. Now I have to find out what to do with it. It looks cute - and fast for a change. But it will not do all that PS does. Not by a long shot. But together, the two could be very powerful. Will see.

Adobe Beta Lightroom is now available for Windows

Rob

So the fight Aperture (on Mac) versus Lightroom (on Windows) seems to have begun. This was to be expected as Apple did not really push very much for Adobe (performance etc.) on their machines.

I have tried both and I prefer Aperture, much easier and quicker to use.

Lightroom is beta and subject to change so it is a bit of a waste of time getting lightroom up to speed if you are going to add then you have to redo the architecture again. Lightroom will be as fast on mac as PC when it comes out, it is slow on PC as well at the moment. There is no way Adobe will let its mac customers go would you let your PhotoShop customers go elsewhere, ahhh don't think so,

At this point, Lightroom is not only Beta, but very early Beta. A lot more tools and controls, along with improved speed, are to be expected before the final version is ready for purchase in January 2007.

I'm wondering if Apple will ever get a PC version of Aperture out or if they are just giving up on that part of the market, which would be dumb in my opinion.

I have been using lightroom for Apple/Mac for about 4 weeks now, ever since buying a full sized sensor canon MkII or whatever. Lightroom concept is great, I like the touch and feel of it, this compared to Photoshop CS which I also have.

But I'm afraid that the "electronic" approach to photography is not my thing, it sort of takes the "zing" out of it. I enjoy the smell of chemicals, the feel of negatives, the occasional stains on my designer clothes, 2GB scandisk ultra III cards sort of disrupt this "Zen" thing.

But having to use it makes you look for the best tools and I think Lightroom is good for that (it is still quite buggy) but as I said the concept is nice. I trust the Win version will be pretty much the same as the Mac version .... so I would recommend you try it out
