sevrin1965 Posted June 4, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone New to the forum and the world of Leica also, I have just purchased a Leica M8, and awaiting delivery of a Zeiss 25mm ZM Biogon lens, I have two questions which hopefully you guys can help me with: Can I just manualy setup the camera to recognise this lens or do I need to code it, or both ? If coding is needed which form is best? And what Leica lens to setup it up as ? Also I realise I need a UV/IR filter, but unsure which is best, I did read that the B+W 486 cut filter is very good, but on the Schneider optics website it notes that this filter is not compatable with lenses with a greater angle of view than 60 degrees, will this mean that it will not work with the Zeiss 25mm lens ? Regards......Sev.

ErikP Posted June 4, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2012 Part of the answers your lookng for. You need to code.
ho_co Posted June 5, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 5, 2012 Welcome to the forum, Sev. Use the forum's search function for posts regarding which lens to code it as. Or your supplier can often supply that information with the lens. I don't recall whether any action other than coding for the most compatible Leica lens is needed, but if so, check out CornerFix | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net. Good luck; it's a good lens and other forum members will doubtless check in with their experience.
tobey bilek Posted June 5, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 5, 2012 As soon as you apply add the UV/IR filter to correct the colors, the corners will go cyan/green starting with 35mm and wider. For coding to work the lens must bring up the proper frame line, 24/35 in this case. Then you must color the pits or otherwise provide a code closest to a similar Leica lens. Corner Fix is used by me to touch up what the camera does not do perfectly. Early build 25mm bring up the wrong frame lines. it is a $300 conversion so just return it if that is what you got. Current build also has a nice grove where you can put colors without resorting to your Moto Tool. which does work if there is no choice.

jaapv Posted June 5, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 5, 2012 300$? I paid Zeiss 30 $ for the mount and screwed it on myself....
tobey bilek Posted June 5, 2012 Share #7 Posted June 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) 300 came from a post by someone who sent his lens to Zeiss. I have no personel knowledge. Maybe he just added an extra zero or there is a new policy in effect.
flyheli Posted June 16, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 16, 2012 I use the same IR filter on my Zeiss (28 & 50) lenses and it works great. Don't see any cyan on the 28 so I'm not sure where the "cyan below 35" comes from. I did buy the coding tool on ebay (Asia) for around 75$ if I remember correctly and it works great for having the camera identify the lens but you won't get any aperture info on your exif file unfortunately. enjoy your new gear! jaapv Posted June 17, 2012 Share #9 Posted June 17, 2012 You do get an estimated aperture in your exif regardless of coding. And you will see cyan drift on a 28 if uncoded.
sevrin1965 Posted June 21, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted June 21, 2012 Hi all just a quick update, the 25 Bio was the one with the mount fix, coded it as a 24 Elmarit 2.8, with the B+W 486 UV/IR on it works it just great, brings up the 24mm frame lines, no cyan and vignetting is almost non existent. cheers for the replies.......Sev
