old wollensak cine raptor 50/1.9

Recommended Posts

Only a guess: Since it's labeled a Cine lens, it's either for 8mm or 16mm motion picture cameras.

They both had a far shorter mount-to-film distance than the M camera, so even with an adapter, the lens would be too far from the focus plane to be able to focus to infinity.

Both 8mm and 16mm film lenses would also have a much smaller circle of coverage than a lens for 35mm format.

Even if the lens pictured is for 35mm movie film, its coverage would be for a frame of 18mm x 24mm.

But someone who knows about the lens in question may correct my assumptions, which are based on the word "Cine" and the fact that Wollensak made lenses for home movie cameras.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it looks like a C-Mount (so 50mm has to be considered a "tele" focal both for 8 and 16mm film) : someone uses such lenses as macro lenses on micro 43 cameras (the effective angle of taking is reduced by extension, and you can cover the m43 format... I found some fine examples on the net). Btw... I think the correct name isn't "Raptor" but "Raptar" : a brand name used a lot by Wollensak (also on Leica SM compatible lenses)

Here's another 50mm Wollensak Lens (not the same as yours) which has been adapted to a Leica body : ebay item n° 310381290897
