Travel, no work.

I recently went through this exercise and determined the gorilla pod from other user experiences to be unsatisfactory. With longer lenses it has no strength to counter a distant centre of gravity, and secondly is prone to bounce from vibrations.

You have not stated the size and weight of the camera/lens combination taht will be on the tripod.....as this affects the solution.

Depending on what you are prepared to carry the lightest to heaviest:

a) String tripod (for emergencies only) do a google on this.

B) Leica Mini table top tripod

c) Hakuba travel tripod

d) Carbon Gitzo G1027 (G1127) with G1177M magnesium or RRS BH25

For my D3/L1, I chose a, c and d for a 3-continents round the world experience recently, but turned out didn't need to use d

I'm of the belief(practice) that the camera/lens/tripod-head combination to tripod weight ratio should be as close to 1:1 +/- 25%........ Someone else in this forum was prepared to put $10K worth of M8/lens/RRS-BH40 onto a tripod only 1/3 it's weight, this to me is just asking for a trip to Solms for your gear.
