1959 Chevrolet Impala

Saw this 1959 Chevrolet Impala in Cathedral Square Peterborough City Centre on 2 June. The car is in the course of being restored and there is still much work to do. The first three shots were taken with an Olympus E-5 fitted with a Leica D Summilux 25/1.4 Asph. The second set of three were taken using my Leica X1. All images were taken as JPEGS to try and compare the JPEG quality from each camera. Lighting conditions were dull and overcast which can be ideal for car photography. Next week I hope to attend the Bourne Classic Car and Bike Show where there should be some interesting photo opportunities - that's Bourne in Lincolnshire as distinct from nearby Bourn in Cambridgeshire. As Bourne is the home of BRM there might be a BRM V16 racing car on display which I last saw at the Sutton Coldfield Boy Scouts Jamboree in 1957 … when I was 10 years old.

And this is how my Leica X1 coped with the car. The X1 has the equivalent of a 36mm lens on FF whereas the D Summilux 25/1.4 is 50mm equivalent

The Impala's colour is different between camera shots. Which one is more accurate? That 283 cubic inch V-8 reminds me of my first car: 1963 Chevy Bel Air... Jim

Not sure ... I'm colour blind ... both taken as JPEGS using auto white balance.

Nicely photographed! I'm always amazed by the '59, a great example of the capabilities of metal stamping machinery. A fault of that design is that a suitcase had to be raised high to get into or out of that trunk. Was the gas cap under the rear plate? Thanks for posting these. Nice!
