I’m in the process of purchasing a new bag where I can fit my M7, MP3 and M8 with attached lenses 50, 28 and 15, with room left for film, batteries and maybe a notebook. I have a Hadley-Pro and is now a bit tight since the arrival of the M8. I also own the Billingham M bag, which is fine if all you are carrying is one camera lens attached and film or batteries. My debate has centered on which color combination to get. The Fogg “b-major” that I’m purchasing comes in three colors: black, khaki with cognac leather or mocha with oak leather. Personally I avoid black bags (however I did buy the Billingham M in black) – well I sort of got stuck with it, the dealer that I purchased it from went out of business – and a representative of which I met through this forum, so go figure. To each his own, but where I go I need to “not” look like I’m carrying photo equipment or a Lap-top and I think black bags (unfortunally) send the message too loud and clear. I don’t know if anyone here has seen the Fogg mocha/oak combination that could give me his or her impressions, so for the moment the khaki is ahead, good luck on your search. I spoke to Billingham and they said the matching AVEA 3 pouch should just about take an Elmarit -M 90. I took the risk and this post is to let anyone considering this pouch, know that it is almost a perfect fit. The lens is a tiny bit too long to allow the waterproof drawstring cover to fully close at the moment but as the pouch softens, I think this will sort itself. Looks nice too. Mine came with a bottom padding, a 2 lens divider and an extra flappy piece which I have no idea how to incorporate. The included dividers leave a large open space for the camera + lens and I would like to add another section to contain it better. Any ideas? barbican Posted March 9, 2007 Share #26 Posted March 9, 2007 99% of my shots are M6 and 35 cron so I don't need the extra space, but use a Domke 803 due to holding 12-24 rolls of film etc. Have just picked up a M8 and downsized to a tiny LowePro Rezo 100-AW which just fits the M8 & 35 cron laying down (would probably fit my M8 & Nocti too) and memory/batteries. Paul, Here is a picture of my daughter who VERY reluctantly agreed to model for the Billingham Combo M with AVEA 3 pouch - "but I haven't got any make-up on yet and my hair has not been washed". To give you an idea of scale, she is 1.65m tall. The AVEA pouch fixes on to the leather guide for the main shoulder strap by two leather straps with high quality metal pop studs. I can carry 1 body + 90 / 75 / 50 / 35 / 28 / 21 / CV 15 or 2 bodies less the 90 mm. Less is more. and my desk's a complete mess... (BTW - JPEGs processed from raw in LR 1.0. rboaden Posted March 11, 2007 Share #30 Posted March 11, 2007 I have the Billingham M bag and have had it modified in two ways, so that it is now superb. First, I had a leather handle sewn on to the top of the lid. Second, I had velcro strips sewn onto the inner flap. Because the camera sits so high when there are lenses in the two side pockets, it can fall right out of the bag if the bag is on its side, or if you pick it up by the lid, and the flap is not fastened down in some manner. The velcro is attached to the top of the inner flap, and to the outside edge of the bag, so that you need to release them before being able to lift the camera out of the central well. This means that even if you carelessly, or hurriedly, lift up the bag by its lid, there is no danger of the camera falling out. Welcome, dear visitor! Look like excellent ideas. Olivier, Both Richard and I are using the Billingham Combo M for Leica. This is an exclusive Leica product and is only sold through Leica dealers and not direct from Billingham or their dealers. The AVEA 3 pouch is a standard Billingham product and is available both from Leica dealers and from Billingham dealers. The pouch has two sturdy leather straps at the back of the pouch which thread through the leather guide for the shoulder strap at the side of the bag. The guide is just wide enough to allow the fixing straps to sit either side of the shoulder strap. The fixing straps then have strong metal pop studs back onto the pouch to secure it. Juan usually when i have one of my bags on the shoulder i will have a camera on my hands, so i think it doesnt matter what colour the bag has, it will always be identified as a camera bag. Richard, the handle is a great idea. I have the same bag and the fact it has no handle has been my single biggest gripe. The velcro is a good idea as well. I realize that's not an M bag as you're looking at, but I thought I would comment that the Billingham bag is a beautiful piece of work. It's the sort of thing that I feel like I will keep the rest of my life and hand down to my grandchildren. I suppose part of what appeals to me about the Leica brand and all of the related products is just that... respect for real craftsmanship. I had ordered an Artisan & Artist bag that I returned because it didn't seem as well made or robust. I ended up spending the same on this Billingham and I'm glad I did.
