Nokton 35/1.2 compatibility?

I seemed to have read somewhere in this forum that CV Nokton 35/1.2 could not be used with M8 but I cannot trace the thread anymore. Could anyone provide me with a quick answer to the question? As I tried the lens on my M8, the back end of the lens seemed to hit something very slightly at infinity although I couldn't see any sign of scratch inside the camera and I could still focus objects at infinity. I wonder if this was the problem.

I don't own one, and you should get a more informed answer, but there is some contact between flanges that protect the back element of the CV lens and the sides of the enclosure of the M8. There are those who have solved this with a file.

If you look inside the M8 you will see two semi circular cutouts on each side. At the back edge of each cutout there is a step and a small ridge. With my lens the rear shroud was fouling the ridge on one side. I think there's a noticeable tolerance on how symetrically the inside of the M8 is placed with respect to the lens axis. In my case it was sufficiently off center to hit one side. Other people have reported having no problems.

I have the lens and used on the M8. It does bind or get stiff near infinity but it will go there, apparently VC is looking into a kit of some sort. I heard this kit stuff third hand and that must be factored into the discussion. Others here have done their own modification to get past the stiffness at infinity.

 

The lens is absolutely amazing. I love shooting with it on the M8. The stiffness at infinity does bother me on occassion but I like the output so much that I can live with it.

It modified mine to work on my m8, it was fairly easy, but gut wrenching. It involves machining off the flanges in back, but it works great now.

Hi, I was refering to the particular thread you mentioned and thank you all for bringing it to my attention. The symptom I am experiencing with my CV Nokton 35/1.2 on M8 is the "stiffness at infinity", similar to your discription, and I am trying to determine the exact spot where the intereference is occuring. Nevertheless, I am already guessing that the small "ridges" are causing it because that's what happened also with ZM Biogon 21mm.

 

I must think that Cosina never thought of Leica introducing the feature but I am also surprised that the tolerance has been so minimal there. Anyway, the problem seems to be not so serious and I will go ahead and use the lens which I like so much. In the meantime, I might ask Cosina to modify the flange for me. I am curious to find out what they are doing to comply with the M8 specs.
