Helix2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have recently acquired an old case of Leica pieces and was hoping someone here might be able to give me some information on what I have. I have almost no knowledge at all on cameras, vintage or otherwise so please forgive my lack of correct terminology or understanding. All of the pieces are in a brown leather Leica case. The two lens in the set are marked with Elmar f=9cm 1:4 nr877929 and Hektor f=13.5cm 1:4.5 nr855923. There is something labeled summitar, a viewfinder in a little case of its own (took me about 2 hours on ebay just trying to find out what the little thing was lol). The other little brown case contains a little meter of some kind. A piece with a battery in it which looks like pieces on ebay called a syncronblitzer, a couple of wires then a bunch of filters/covers? I dont know what this set would have belonged to or really how to describe it in order to sell. I hope that the photograph can go some way to compensating for my poor description. Any information that anyone can give me about this stuff would be greatly appreciated. I have tried for so long to research this lot of the internet and I find individual pieces from the lot but not a clear indication of exactly what this collection is/what camera it is for/date etc etc. I'm sorry for sounding like an idiot, I just do not know cameras at all. Advertisement Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hi Helix2012, Take a look here Unknown Leica Collection. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jc_braconi Posted May 31, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2012 The description is correct, do you have a SM Leica camera to include in the case at the place of the flash tube ?
Helix2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 31, 2012 I don't have a camera. Just what you see in that photograph. So would I describe this as an accessory kit for a Leica SM camera?
M9reno Posted May 31, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 31, 2012 Yes. SM stands for "screw mount". In other words, any one of the Leica models produced between 1925 and 1957 (except for the bayonet mount M3).

jip Posted June 1, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 1, 2012 Fun collection, since it had been stored in a leather box (dead animal) I hope there is no fungus on the glass.
Helix2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted June 1, 2012 Is that something I would easily see?
lars_bergquist Posted June 1, 2012 Share #10 Posted June 1, 2012 Is that something I would easily see? Very fine threads adhering to glass surfaces, visible if you shine a light through the lens. In time, this vegetable substance etches the surfaces. It is also somewhat contagious. But seriously, these fitted cases are real collector's items, especially with most of the contemporaneous equipment in the different compartments. Here the camera is missing of course. It should be a Leica II, III, IIIa, IIIb or possibly a IIIc. But one could be added without much trouble, and it wouldn't be faking it. The leather may well take a cautious treatment with a colourless preservative cream. The old man whose grampa was a blacksaddler
Helix2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted June 3, 2012 Thank you very much for the advice given. I think I have somewhat of a better idea of what I have here now and I will try to sell it all somehow. I think I will opt against attempting to sell in the classified section here. I'm still not entirely sure exactly what I would write for a description of all the pieces and I'm clearly not equipped with the knowledge to comment on the condition accurately and fairly. Thanks again for friendly help.
Torquinian Posted July 19, 2012 Share #12 Posted July 19, 2012 As you know nothing about, it your best bet is to have a Leica dealer sell it for you on commission. They usually charge 15%. That way there is no risk of letting valuable items go too cheaply.
earleygallery Posted July 19, 2012 Share #13 Posted July 19, 2012 Or ebay. Post plenty of good photos of the items included and the Leica collectors will see it - it's highly unlikely that you won't get the 'market' value. Be really brave and list it at 99p to start with no reserve.
