David Monkhouse Posted May 28, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oliver is notable as one of the four locomotives which worked the last steam rail tours on British Railways in 1968. One of 55 of the "Britannia" class, Oliver Cromwell was built at Crewe Works, being completed on 30 May 1951. 70013 was initially allocated to Norwich depot, BR shed code 32A on the Eastern Region of British Railways and employed on London to Norwich expresses. The photograph was taken on the 27th May just south of the Rowsley terminal of Peak Rail and shows Oliver setting off for London two hours late through no fault of his own. Advertisement Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hi David Monkhouse, Take a look here 70013 Oliver Cromwell is a British Railways standard 4-6-2 class 7 steam locomotive... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pauledell Posted May 28, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 28, 2012 David, A classic shot of a classic locomotive. This kind of picture are hard to find anymore. The roadbed looks like it is in top shape but am surprised to see the rusty hue on the rails. Does this railway have much traffic? Paul
David Monkhouse Posted May 29, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 29, 2012 Paul, not a lot of use, only a few trains a day during the summer and mostly at weekends. The reason she was late was that she had suffered a blowback en route and a fireman was injured and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. David... cocker Posted May 29, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2012 A really excellent picture David. It sounds as though operating these trains is not a risk free business for the enthusiasts then? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Bateleur Posted June 1, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 1, 2012 Lovely photograph! Pity about the blowback, hope the fireman is making a good recovery, it's a scary thing to happen to a fireman. Regards Charles
