portocar Posted March 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I could really use any information regarding equipment insurance. What is the best company to use? What is the best policy? What are the specific policy items to watch out for? Does anyone have an Insurance Rep they can recommend? Â More importantly, I would like to be covered when travelling outside the USA. Â Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi portocar, Take a look here Leica Equipment Insurance. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robovet Posted March 7, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 7, 2007 You can get a "rider" on your homeowners policy. If you shoot professionaly, you can get a policy with a company like TCP. http://groupinsure.com/
LichMD Posted March 7, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 7, 2007 Nestor, I added my M8 and 28/2.0 to my homeowners policy, I was quoted an annual cost of $18/1000 value. If you are a commercial photographer you'll have to use a commercial insurer. good luck
jaapv Posted March 7, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 7, 2007 That varies per country. I have a tip for Dutch amateur owners: join the Fotobond and take the collective insurance. That is not of any use for the USA though.
wparsonsgisnet Posted March 7, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 7, 2007 My home insurance is with a mutual company and they don't insure cameras that are also used professionally. Â I got a special policy for my cameras, everything covered, $500 deductible. For 2 M's, a D2, an M8, and 6 lenses, it's about $500/year. Â My insurance agent specializes in arts and entertainment insurance. If you contact me offline, I will give you his info. Â Regards,
jwr50 Posted March 7, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 7, 2007 My insurance company offers a "Valuable Personal Property" policy for non-commercial use of camera equipment, etc. The VPP is separate from a standard homeowners policy and has no deductible. Just yesterday, in advance of a trip overseas, I ensured my Leica equipment for an annual premium of $159. I suspect that many insurance companies offer similar products, although the price no doubt varies.
