lesh Posted March 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since my D-Lux 3 arrived a few days ago, my guess is that supplies are now rolling in to fill the back orders. Could that mean that there will be room on the forum once again for cameras other than the exotic M8? Nice reading about it, but for some of us plebs it's a bit like a Lambo, very desirable but realistically not an option. Back on topic.....time to get up to speed asap with the D-Lux - a shame the User Manual comes from the same writing school favoured by all Japanese cameras manufacturers since the days of the Pentax ME. Some nice practical user tips would be great - has anyone ever posted a compendium? I bookmarked a thread a few weeks ago http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/11712-d-lux-3-initial-views-results.html and post #8 is a good example of the kind of valuable strategy you'll not find in the official user documents. Can anyone point to where there might be more of the same for sharing?

tommycrown Posted March 7, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 7, 2007 I am also considering Dlux 3 right now. Â But, I have a question. Does it support SDHC card like Sandisk 4gb? Â Does anyone have any experience on SDHC, or does it worth it to use 4gb SD? Â Some people complained about Sandisk SDHC, but if Leicasonic updated firmware~ Â Thanks in advance
edtpm Posted March 7, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 7, 2007 Hello, Here is the link regarding the comparision between Leica D-Lux3 and Panasonic LX2. FYI Â Leica D-Lux 3 vs. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Photo Gallery by koo22 at pbase.com
dan58 Posted March 7, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 7, 2007 If you go over a 2GB SD card you must use a SDHC card with the D-Lux 3. A normal 4GB SD card WILL NOT WORK with a D-Lux 3. I know I tried one. Remember to get a new card reader if you go with SDHC as most of the old ones will not read SDHC cards. You can download from the camera but that is slow. sanqhar Posted March 7, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 7, 2007 Some Sandisk SDHC cards come with the reader bundled with it. see: SanDisk | Products | Memory Cards | SD Cards | Ultra II SD Cards "SDHC Compatibility Information Because SDHC works differently (supports the new higher capacity cards) this new card format is not backwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices. SanDisk wants to provide the easiest and most compatible solution for 4GB and higher capacity SDHC cards in the market. By adding the MicroMateTM USB 2.0 Reader to this new card, we will provide the customer with the best user experience and highest value – dollar for dollar - anyone can offer at this time." intramind Posted March 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love talking about my D-Lux 3 becuase it is such a great little camera. I've had it for about a week and am about finished shooting a job with it. It will soon be paid for! The quality I'm getting is really incredible. I'm shooting illustrations for a book and I'm as confident as I've ever been that everything is going to be just the way I want it. The other nice thing the the D-Lux 3 is that I constantly have it with me. The small leather case and extra battery that can be purchased as an accessory kit is extremely nice. I always have the spare battery with me, and the case is a beauty. The case is a black leather case that is designed for the D-Lux 2 and D-Lux 3 cameras. I purchased everything from Willoughby's in New York. Good outfit to deal with. A 2 gig SD card also came with the package. I find that the 2 gig card is very nice to have. I can cram a lot of 10 megapixal images on it. I found the manual to be very useful. It's clear and consice. It is true that a few user hints such as how best to pre-set the focus would be nice, but that's what forums like this are for! Steve Welcome, dear visitor! tommycrown Posted March 8, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Erwin, Â Thanks for the link~ Â I really like what Leica has done with Dlux 3 plus its firmware, even though I still wish Leica would not emphasize so much on pixels, but on its sensor size... tommycrown Posted March 8, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Steve, Â Nice comments, however, I was wondering if your attachment photo has been reduced from original size or pixels. Â The IQ doesn't really represent 10mp quality IMHO. Â I am also looking to save and purchase Dlux 3.. Â Tommy
intramind Posted March 8, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Hi Tommy, Â Oh, yes, it was reduce big time. The orignal, shot in 4:3 format is 7.5 meg. Still better than my buddy's expensive Nikon D-70. Glad you like the shot. Â Steve
dogberry Posted March 9, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 9, 2007 FWIW: I posted a little minireview of the Leica D-Lux 3 on photo.net recently. You can find it here

farnz Posted March 9, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted March 9, 2007 It is true that a few user hints such as how best to pre-set the focus would be nice, but that's what forums like this are for! Steve, Â Switch to manual focus using the switch on the lens and then use the joystck to set the focus distance you want (remembering to adjust your aperture to give the desired depth of field). The manual focus is shown as a bar, which also indicates depth of field, on the lcd. Using the joystick is awkward at first but it doesn't take long to get used to it. Â Pete.
