RPS Posted May 25, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) When my Dad died a while back he left me his Leitz Trinovid 10x40 BA binoculars, along with all of his Leica-R camera equipment. About 8 weeks ago, the binoculars malfunctioned during a golf tournament I was attending -- simply could not use them any more. Â So, I sent an e-mail inquiry to Leica NJ concerning repair posibilities. The very nice lady who replied -- Ms. Carmen Vargas -- told me that the particular serial number in question was in their records under my Dad's name, so I explained the whole situation. Ms. Vargas then told me that my Dad had purchased a "lifetime warranty" at the time he bought the binoculars back in 1984. She said if I could find the paperwork (i.e. sales receipt) they would repair the binoculars under my Dad's extended warranty -- they were prepared to honor that warranty since I am a family member and had inherited the Trinovids directly from my Dad. Â I dove into Dad's files and, God bless him, he never threw away anything important. I found both the original sales receipt and the printed "lifetime warranty". I sent all of this up to Leica NJ with the Trinovids and, after a few weeks, got my binoculars back, good as new, at a total cost to me of return shipping. Â Leica didn't have to do this, but they did. I was VERY impressed.
Advertisement Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Hi RPS, Take a look here Kudos to Leica NJ. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted May 25, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 25, 2012 Nice story. Would have been even better if you hadn't been required to produce paperwork, since the warranty was on record, with serial number. Suppose you hadn't found it? Â BTW, I've had good experiences with Leica NJ as well, including Carmen and others. Â Jeff
RPS Posted May 25, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 25, 2012 Jeff -- I think they were just looking for proof that I was a family member. If I had acquired these Trinovids vie eBay, I doubt they would have been inclined to honor the warranty.
johnbuckley Posted May 25, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 25, 2012 Carmen is wonderful, but honestly, everyone I've ever dealt with in Allendale is helpful, friendly, and seems to understand how empty our camera bags are when a favorite lens or body has to go to the hospital. Nice story.
