Feudal1 Posted June 8, 2012 Share #44  Posted June 8, 2012 Picked mine up last night, along with the Olympus VF-2 (for less than half the price of the Leica EVF, which looks and operates exactly the same).  Grabbed this sunset shot of clearing skies after a thunderstorm. I like the fact that the colors are realistic - other cameras have a tendency to want to make the blue sky look strange. Only thing I did was boost the contrast a bit, deepen the black, and saturate the orange a bit, using the camera-generated JPG file. Other cameras, I might shoot raw, but with the Leica, I like the color rendering straight from the camera, so that's likely to be the way I continue to shoot.  This camera doesn't have a ton of improvements over the X1, but there are enough to make it worth purchasing if you don't have an X1. AF is definitely improved, and the X2 LCD screen, while still being the same resolution as the X1, is crisper, and has some type of coating that makes it clearer and easier to view in sunlight. It also seems like the screen refresh rate is increased, as movement is very smooth.  All in all, I'm quite pleased. I'll learn more about the image quality as I shoot more with it this weekend, but from the test shots I've taken so far, image quality is at least as good as the X1. Welcome, dear visitor! Feudal1 Posted June 8, 2012 Share #46 Â Posted June 8, 2012 ^ that's beautiful! Â Thanks. Looking forward to getting out and shooting this weekend. The X2 is so small and light, it's a real pleasure to shoot with, instead of going with an SLR and a bag of lenses.
andystac Posted June 8, 2012 Share #47  Posted June 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) X2 out of the box snaps. did nothing to these, no messing around with settings, just opened the box and took these random shots. first one is outside in as bright as it can possibly get sunlight, could see the screen well enough to frame the shot. took out my iPhone to see if it would help if leica put a retina display on this thing but it was just as hard to see. second one was supposed to be the standard bookshelf shot, but batman arrived!! sorry these are pretty low rez, don't know the tricks of uploading to this site yet. but the originals are pretty sharp and correct colors. M8X2 Posted June 9, 2012 Share #50 Â Posted June 9, 2012 Feudal, Andy, thanks for your pictures! Can you say something about sharpness at the edges and overall sharpness at 2.8? In many reviews I read that the X2 is somewhat soft at 2.8.
flynn Posted June 9, 2012 Share #51 Â Posted June 9, 2012 Got my X2 yesterday from Tony at Southeastern Camera in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. They received three X2's and I grabbed one of the black ones. Georgeous and feels like a Leica should feel. Wonderful image quality and the auto-focus is way better. Feudal1 Posted June 9, 2012 Share #53 Â Posted June 9, 2012 Feudal, Andy, thanks for your pictures! Can you say something about sharpness at the edges and overall sharpness at 2.8? In many reviews I read that the X2 is somewhat soft at 2.8. Â I've seen no real issues with that. For example, I took this test shot yesterday (f/2.8, ISO 100, 1/1600), JPG out of camera with sharpening turned down to medium-low. No post-processing of any kind, other than to resize the first image to forum standards. The first image is the full shot, second image is a 100% crop from the center of the photograph. It looks plenty sharp on my 27" iMac display. Honestly, the image quality is excellent, even when shot wide open. Â Â
andystac Posted June 9, 2012 Share #54 Â Posted June 9, 2012 Have to Agree with feudal1, softness is not an issue with this camera, so far this little camera is giving me images I could never get with my old canon SLR , quite amazing really. Also to reiterate, the whole low Rez screen thing is hogwash.
