Sony? For the small runs Leica needs they will only do off-the-shelf, and they have no sensor suitable for an M10 without modification.

Why not? Sony supplies sensors to many companies. Apparently the one in the X2 is a variant of what is in Nikon and Pentax bodies, unless someone has better information.

Personally I hope it is a Sony sensor, because they are very good and probably cheaper then if they came from a smaller company.

Why would the sensor cease to be available? Leica may decide they need a higher resolution sensor or whatever, but as long as they need the existing sensor it will continue to be manufactured (Leica is the only customer for this particular sensor anyway).

Wasn't it discontinued along with the M9 sensor? I thought I read something somewhere a few weeks ago.

Had the Summarit line of lenses been a huge success then Leica might have been tempted.

The focal lengths available in the summarit range are those that are most often used, so many are willing to spend the extra money on a summicron or summilux version of the desired focal length. While 21mm is a more and more popular focal length, it is still something many Leica users go to Zeiss or Voigtlander to buy (knowing they won't be using it as much as their 50 or 35). An $1800-$2000 21mm summarit with 6-bit coding and good modern performance would likely be more popular than any of the other summarit lenses.

Yes i agree and it would fill the niche in my bag nicely. I dont really want to go third party with zeiss or voigtlander.

Oh and if summarits arent a succes why are they like all other Leica lenses still difficult to source new?

Okay I have been toying between a 28 Summilux and a 75 Summilux.........

I'm gonna be a little unusual and choose the 75 Summilux as No 3. Why? well they stopped production a few years back, it's now recognised more than it was as is 75mm in general, there is now nothing super fast over 50mm plus the 75 APO cron and the 90 APO cron are excellent, accepting there is room for a better 75 APO cron if they can get MTF's as they have with the 50.

Here goes then:

1. M10

2. 35 Summicron APO

3. 75 Summilix

That was before the Summicrons started costing $7000+.

The Summicron 50 mm costs much less and is still an excellent lens. You don’t have to buy the Apo-Summicron just because it’s available.

Entertain yourself by reading all the comments (especially Lars) predicting the discontinuation of the lower priced versions. My comment was in jest, but others have a more cynical view.

I'll personally stick with my 50 Summilux asph.

It's not gonna happen, a 21/3.4 already costs almost 3 grand US ...

Well, personally I don't think we will see the M10 this year. I think its in for 2013 and basically an M9P with the LED Frame lines of the M9ti, an improved display, faster processing and liveview to keep things simple. Appart from 30MP... ;)

For Photokina'12 we will see:

1) S3 with 50MP+

2) The long awaited 1.5 Crop EVIL and R Solution

3) 28mm Summilux ASPH

#2 I would be quite interested but:Leica's new interchangeable lens camera system unlikely to be introduced in 2012 - British Journal of Photography

This would require a lot of expertise outside of Leica and a lot of inside development. I do not expect a Leica branded Fuji or Sony - to many problems with existing Leica lenses.

I think an incremental camera design like the M10 is more likely - at least until the new factories in Wetzlar and Portugal are up and running.
