ALD Posted May 17, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to get an idea how much it costs to just send a Leica M9 to Solms and get a normal service done. Â So assuming nothing is wrong with the camera, what will Leica charge? Does it then mean that Leica gives a 1 year warranty on the camera? Â I am in negotiations for the option to purchase one or two of 5 Leica M9 cameras I have found through painstaking classified posts and internet searches all between $4000 and $5000 USD and with actuations from 1400 to 16000. Â My question is related to buying a cheaper one with few actuations but out of warranty or an expensive one with warranty but slightly more actuations. Â The cracked sensors occasionally occuring is a worrying issue.

jaapv Posted May 17, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 17, 2012 The cracked sensor is not a guaranty issue.

That would be my first port of call.

andybarton Posted May 17, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted May 17, 2012 Jaap what do you mean by " not a guarantee issue "Â Â If past experience is anything to go by, Leica will replace cracked sensors free of charge, regardless of guarentee expiry etc. Indeed, they may even have made a statement confirming this. pedaes Posted May 17, 2012 Share #7  Posted May 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) As they charge nearly £300GBP for a one year extension to the warranty, I would doubt if a CLA service includes the warranty you ask about.
philipus Posted May 17, 2012 Share #8  Posted May 17, 2012 This is from the M9 warranty conditions which apply during the initial 12-month period.  1. During the warranty period we shall deal with complaints based on faulty manufacture (free of charge) by repair, replacement of defective parts or replacement by an identical flawless product at our own discretion. Consequential claims, no matter what kind and of what legal argument, in connection with this warranty, cannot be accepted  2. Claims under warranty are null and void if the defect has been caused by improper handling – which also can include the use of non-Leica accessories – if the Leica camera has been serviced by unauthorized persons or workshop, or if the serial number has been obliterated.  Clearly a sensor which is faulty as a result of manufacturing error will be replaced on the warranty. Leica still replaces the sensors on the old Digilux 2 free of charge but I haven't found anything that says there's a similar policy for M9 sensors regardless of the camera's age.
