george + Posted March 5, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 5, 2007 Many thanks Alexander, looks like a well written memo. Looking forward to the new version. Which sounds like a cleaned up 1.09.

stevem7 Posted March 5, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 5, 2007 No mention of improved AWB? The leaked FW update on my M8 really improved the AWB. Lets hope the one tomorrow kept that in the update. I went back to the original FW so I will be happy to install the new one tomorrow.
stevem7 Posted March 5, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 5, 2007 Also, i wonder if this sentence means that less M8's will be dying for no reason: Â "In addition, the operational reliability was enhanced by optimizing internal procedures."

I surely hope so, i can't see what else they can be refering to with this statement....  I'm crossing my fingers, and looking forward to tomorrow, finally some progress :-)  And thanks Leica Tech for releasing this before the much talked about 1.10 FW
barjohn Posted March 5, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 5, 2007 I too want to thank Leica management for listening to us (their customers). I know, that I for one, appreciate the communications and candor. Nothing can drive me into becoming a fanatically loyal customer than the feeling that the company I am dealing with cares about me as a customer and cares about the product they are producing. Three cheers and a hardy THANK YOU LEICA MANAGEMENT!

John they honestly do care a great deal , it may not be as public as some would wish but they really do care, i know delays and waiting for camera's to come back and failures and all this adds up to frustration on folks part which is understandable, but I do know for a fact they are working there tails off to make the M8 a success both with there customers and with there business. Jager Posted March 5, 2007 Share #11  Posted March 5, 2007 A very helpful and well-worded communication. I agree, I think Leica is doing the very best they can - and, on balance, a terrific job - in dealing with the whole range of unanticipated issues which have come their way these last few months. From every indication they are literally swamped with work. I suspect that later in the year, with the then-benefit of hindsight, this trying time will be seen for what it will have been - a crucible from which the new Leica will have emerged. Guest magyarman Posted March 5, 2007 Share #13  Posted March 5, 2007 Also, i wonder if this sentence means that less M8's will be dying for no reason: "In addition, the operational reliability was enhanced by optimizing internal procedures."  I thing this mean is more strait:  Numerous internal procedures were improved and so-called bug-fixes implemented.  Mast to hope this was add to firmware after was 1,091becaus some people yet got stop work M8 after put inside 1,091. Is no prablem too. Leica got from 1,092 more sieben times try fix up before is mast be 1,10 Just if next one firmware calls 1,0921 we mast to be scare :D
tjv Posted March 5, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted March 5, 2007 No mention of the new banding caused by highlights on the edge of the frame...
Guest magyarman Posted March 5, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted March 5, 2007 exclusively the special Leica UV/IR filters on the lenses in order to prevent the infrared light from reachingthe CCD sensor. (Using other UV/IR filters can result in uncontrollable color offsets that cannot be compensated even by the upcoming firmware!) Â This mean all who bot it B+W ora Heliopan mast to trow in garbaj buy again new from Leica filters?
jaapv Posted March 5, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted March 5, 2007 It does exist, but the number of camera's doing this seems to be limited, judging by the number of reports.
ho_co Posted March 5, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted March 5, 2007 This mean all who bot it B+W ora Heliopan mast to trow in garbaj buy again new from Leica filters? Caveat emptor. Â Quite likely the other brands will be fine in most cases, but Leica is saying they will stand behind the quality image their own filters will produce. jaapv Posted March 5, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted March 5, 2007 This mean all who bot it B+W ora Heliopan mast to trow in garbaj buy again new from Leica filters? Not really. The Leica filters have an identical spectrum to the 486 filters, and are built under Schneider control. Heliopan are slightly different, but close enough for corrections to work. Don't fall for marketing blah or for lawyer avoid-liability speak.
herbkell Posted March 6, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted March 6, 2007 With all the glee and enthuisiasm about the release of 1.091 am I the only one who is disappointed that the cyan corner fix is delayed 2 months (Feb -April) and the IR filters are shipping a month after they were promised (Feb -March.) Â I purchased my M8 (in November) for a planned 5 week trip to SE Asia at the end of March and I will be leaving without a complete IR fix and who knows if I will receive my Leica IR filters in time. Â I hate sounding like Scrooge in the midst of this Leica fest but it's hard not to feel a bit disappointed. Â I hope that 1.091 helps fix the occasional crashes that I have experienced but time will tell
Guest sirvine Posted March 6, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted March 6, 2007 Leica has also mentioned the unexpected popularity of the M8 a few times, which is either marketing puffery or a good reason why things are taking longer than expected. I still feel like the company is trying hard to make the product line work, although the standard should be perfection, at least.
