The collectors may grimmace but it came out for the bag, got a strap and a roll of Portra 160. After years of the dull black chrome the black paint is stunning. Today, 40 rolls later, it's brassing nicely. Being ex-military I was always leery of the brass, but it sure does look nice on a Leica. My M6 has started taking on the not so nice zinc at the edges. I don't want a TTL flash version and the shutter dial is backwards to me since I have the original M6 bodies. The dial on the M9 drives me crazy because of my ingrained habit of turning it the opposite direction (I solve that by being lazy and leaving it on A mode ) I guess my only option is the M4 black paint (saw one on eBay last week; they're not cheap!) or the MP. I don't think so but those with Leica literature at hand can find the real answer. I did find online this page which mentions a "rare" M6 black paint though to me black colour doesn't look the same way as the black paint. It's both. For instance the edges of the bottom and top plates brass when they rub against other items. The underside of the camera (ie the bottom plate) scratches when you place it on things, naturally. The rewind screw and the film advance lever brass due to friction from the fingers. It doesn't happen as fast as other brassing. I've shot approx. 50 rolls and these two are just beginning to brass. From looking at photos of M3 and M4 black paint bodies, it seems to me the Millennium has a slightly thinner paint layer. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
