I have a malfunctioing M8, ad described in Frank's thread. As I understand it, an M8 with a malfunctioning screen/switch may still be functioning at some level, even if you can't see it. I would like to change from a sleep mode to the "no sleep" mode, or the "constant awake" mode, whatever you call it. I want to be able to put a battery in, and then deplete it until it resets. I can't do that now, because I think it goes to sleep after five minutes or so, and I can't change it, because I can't see it.

So if somebody has the time, could you give me a list of key punches from the time I turn the switch on, until I get to "no sleep mode" and then Set?

Thanks.

JC

Also, something else that occured to me. If these cameras fail while they are turned off, over night, I wonder if it could have anything to do with the fact that the shutter is constantly cocked -- that is, as soon as you take a shot, the shutter immediately recocks, and stays in that cocked position; the shutter is essentially cocked 100 percent of the time. Maybe somethign in that mechanism has a problem...though I don't know why that would effect the LCD screen.

John,

The keystrokes on mine are as below but I'm not sure whether the menu screen starts from the same place every time. For example I frequently format my SD card, for which the entry is on the second page, and I've noticed that often the menu will start on that page. But let's assume for now that yours starts on the first page and on the Lens Detection item by default.

The other thing that occurs to me is that you may have changed your Auto Off setting from the default so I shall supply the keystrokes that assume the default (5 minutes) and list the other options in case you need them. Here goes:

1. Power On

2. Press Menu button

3. 10 clicks on the Down arrow

4. Press Set (to enter the Auto Power Off menu)

5. 2 clicks on the Down arrow (to select "Disabled")

The list of available options on the Auto Power Off menu are (in order):

2 minutes

5 minutes

10 minutes

Disabled

Best of luck!

Pete.

I suggest you forget about running the battery down. That will not fix your NO LCD screen problem.

You need to send the camera back to Leica ASAP and have it fixed, Like tomorrow.

I don't think having the shutter cocked all the time has anything to do with the LCD not working.
