Jaybob Posted April 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a Nikon D3 (I was a D2H/X, a D1H/X, and back in the day, just plain D1 ), M3 film, and adapted Leica/Sony NEX shooter. I have owned a Digilux 2, which has the best out of camera digital color that I have seen, with the D1X being a close second. I just spent a week with a loaner M9 and my 3 lens outfit, 28, 50, and 90, in Las Vegas. The images below have not been breathed too heavy on...the black and white conversions were done in Lightroom 4 and the color files were not juiced, looking pretty much how they appeared in real life. The small size of the JPGs for the forum does them NO justice...The M9 DNG files are beyond robust, with great looking natural color (very similar to the Digilux 2, with more speed!) and amazing dimensional detail and sharpness. I had a small amount of worry about not being able to crank the ISO up high, but that went away immediately. Of the 766 total pictures I took (!!) 80% of the were below 640, only 28 frames above 800, and I never shot above 1600, and those higher ISO files were a very easy clean with Lightroom 4. The attached first shot was done at 500 the rest were all 200 and below. Adobe LR4 makes the DNG (and Nikon NEFs for that matter) files MUCH easier to work with, especially ones with a lot of shadow area. In the fifth picture below, the girl having a bad morning, it was impossible to make the shadowed grille of the police car and her outfit look right in LR3, but super easy in LR4. There is amazing clarity in the original file, from the detail in the handcuffs, the tread of the tire, the sticker above the door handle, the reflection on the fender, the cop on the phone through the windshield behind the wheel, and the handbag on the hood...again the small JPGS do not do the files justice... I shot mostly with the camera on “A” and used the wheel on the back to adjust +/-. The fifth picture was the only time I felt fooled, mostly because I only took one shot quickly, pointed directly into the headlights. Using Adobe LR 4, the color out of this camera, pretty amazing. Black and white conversions, the same. I even did a firmware update...painless. I did not miss for one second lugging around that giant bag of Nikon gear. The M9 is everything that I need it to be right now. Photography is exciting with this perfect little camera. I, for one, can't wait for the May 10th/11th announcement, hopefully it is a juiced up M10 and there will be a few sort-of less expensive M9s to be had. I saw a million cameras in Vegas, most of them Canon. Only 1 Leica, and I was carrying it. BUT, they were all lookin'. Jay Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can post images up to 960 pixels on the longest length and 300kb if you a not a Sponsoring Member. You can go to 600kb if you sponsor the Forum. Your shots are typically 640 pixels on the max length and around 100kb, so you have lots of headroom available to post less compressed photographs. She was no lady, I can almost guarantee that. She was not very happy with the situation she found herself enduring either. I took a quick glance and I got away from there as quickly as I could.
