Expectant Mother

This Peregrine is sitting on 4 eggs. It is the fourth year that this same couple has nested on the roof of the tallest building in Jackson, Michigan. It is the first time, however, that I pulled strings to get up to that roof. I didn't expect what I found. This picture was taken through a very small window that started 6 feet off the floor with Venetian blinds over it. I looked through the blinds and she was 3 feet away looking directly at me. Her very nervous husband was on a ledge 5 feet higher watching my every move. I slowly lifted the blinds and took this and several other shots. This shot has been heavily adjusted to account for the sun glare on the dirty glass of the little window. I have been assured that I will be invited back for more when the eggs hatch and again when the Natural Resources agents come in to band the young.

M9 with 75 cron and LR4.

Thanks for looking,

Mark Blumer

Stu, Paul, Phil and Ece...thank you. JRM, you guessed right. If you look carefully (in a blow-up it is quite easy to see) you will see blood on the lower parts of her beak. She obviously had finished breakfast just before I got there. People are also getting used to finding small bird body parts on the ground around the building where they are nesting.

I took a few shots of her husband watching me but not with my Leica so I didn't post them here. If anyone is interested, here is a link to my Flickr site where that picture is posted. He really is a beautiful animal.
