Delta 100 and HC 110

would the results have been that much different had you used ilford chemicals instead? trying to understand the extent to which your photos, whose tonal quality is great in my opinion, is a function of picture you took (metering, etc) versus the soup with which you developed the negative.

The exposure was quite simple....just used averaged metering for mid tones, probably 1/30 th at 2.8. for the above shot.

My view is that the HC 110 is well suited to the delta film...I always feel that the ilford chemistry gives less bite...might just be my technique but HC is my standard..

maybe others using Ilford chemistry could chip in?

Hallo Andy,

the Deltas I ordered after regarding your pictures came today (the HC was here).

I'm very curious to see how it works - perhaps an lower speed alternative to my standard film (Tri-X in X-TOL 1:2 - 12 Min.).

Best regards,

Jens

These appear nice on a screen, but my experience is D76 does a better job, less grain & sharper.

I mix a liter at a time and put into small one time use bottles, 4 oz generally.

All I need is a few chemicals and a scale. It cost perhaps a $1 to make a liter, 8 films at 1:1.

Hallo,

my first impression from a roll Delta 100 (M3 with Apo-Lanthar 90) on the lighttable and after first scans:

- nice first impresion - good use of the sensity,

- the shadows are a little weak an the lights tends easily towards pure white (perhaps the reason for the "bite"),

- the middle tones are a little bit dull - could be caused by the lens a used for the test,

- the grain could be

I will take another roll with a lens I know well (this one was given for a test) - the Summicron DR.

Pictures to come next week.

Best,

Jens

what were your ' issues' with this combination?

very interested to hear' date=' as I might be happy with my stuff but maybe it can be even better?[/quote']

Hello Andy,

I tried to descripe the issues above.

I didn't like the tonality at my photos. Too weak in the shadows, too easy blown out in the lights.

I found my standard-combination (above as well) to show a richer tonality - and for me it is not so nice to shoot with 100 Asa.

Like I said: Nice try!

Best,

Jens
