gravastar Posted April 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 16, 2012 I have found a problem similar to vignetting when using very dense filters with the Noctilux. Due to the thickness of the filter glass oblique light rays are attenuated more than light that hits the filter normally (straight on). With low filter factors this isn't noticeable but it can be a problem with an ND3 1024x filter. For example 10% variation from center to edge of a 2x ND 0.3 is a little less than 1/10 stop whereas the same variation with a 1024x ND 3.0 is 1 stop and very visible. Also some dense filters tend to have a warm color cast which when removed leaves the edges of the image warmer than the center. Bob. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I thought I had only found 2x 3 stops but I had a stoke of luck this morning and found a 6 stop so I can run with that now. Phew. Bring on the magic! Double Negative Posted April 19, 2012 Share #10 Posted April 19, 2012 Ahh, that makes sense. Are you sure it's the filter causing it? The lens does vignette quite a bit wide open even without...
