audidudi Posted March 9, 2007 Share #61 Â Posted March 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) You've told the camera to change to manual mode, which obvious instructs the camera to take the aperature value from the aperature ring on the lens (ie signal external from the body). So clearly it would introduce a difficulty if there is a parallel process over-riding the input from the lens.....? First off, I should have been more clear as I'm referring to using the camera in manual-exposure mode with manual-focus lenses that generate no signals whatsoever. Because using "dumb" 35mm-format lenses on this camera requires tweaking of the exposure settings every time you change the aperture, I believe it'd be more convenient if this could be done via a thumbwheel (especially when you're composing and focusing via the LCD instead of the viewfinder), which can be twirled without taking your eyes off the LCD, instead of only by a knob on the top of the camera, which (I find) is difficult to manipulate by feel alone. Â As I recall, my mostly manual Minolta XK had a stepless electronically controlled shutter that worked exactly as I described (save for not having a thumbwheel adjustment but a lever) and this camera was designed 30+ years ago... You raise a good point for the electrically de-coupled manual lenses.  Maybe this is a relevant request for an engineering change for any planned/unplanned Firmware changes to the D3/L1. May I suggest you send this as an email to the Leica Marketing department, and copy the email to the Leica Service department.  regards
sean_reid Posted March 9, 2007 Author Share #63 Â Posted March 9, 2007 Sean - I remember you had a Digilux 2 at one time. Let us know how you like the Digilux 3. I have the Olympus E-500 which is another 4/3rds format which I shhot once in a while. Not sure how viable is the 4/3rds format in the future. Care to comment ? Thanks:) Â It's a viable format for sure. I'll still thinking through ideas but the format has merit. Â Cheers, Â Sean
