Lens #1468274; body 14(3??). (I may be wrong with one or two numbers, they are not totally clear on my screen). It is described as superb and appears mint. Has 10 days to run. Anyone have any comment? Has this camera been seen before? I may be paranoid, but I have a strange tingle in the logic part of my brain. I add that any serious seller who has to show an original MP, would post a picture of the bottom with the baseplate removed (I mean, the plate with the film loading drawing). S/N and engravings are "ok"... a very weak proof of authenticy for a surely repainted camera...... and the "fine" wax seal is maybe an exaggeration... Regardless, it is surely an impressive bit of kit. Eyebrows are raised if the zeros start with an user grade servicable Elmar, but ++sigh++ SOMEONE still bid on it. I've got my popcorn... I've also flat out asked the seller "What's the history of this camera? Where did you get it?" I asked through ebay's internal messaging, which the powers that be at ebay can and do look at when there are problems. Privacy? why would you think that there would be ANY privacy? Given that Sherry Krauter has an original MP body for sale priced at $28,000US, this is a once in a lifetime "opportunity" - it sounds too good to be true!! At least it will be impossible to claim good faith purchase if/when the real owner comes along if it has been bought for much less than the Westlicht price. SideB Posted March 22, 2012 Share #12 Posted March 22, 2012 There are several plausible scenarios which could explain why this is a perfectly legitimate sale: seller may have inherited the camera; seller is unaware of its true value having won it in a poker game; seller set up new ebay id specifically for this auction, he knows the camera's value and wants to generate publicity though exactly this sort of discussion; seller 'found' the camera on a bus and is the rightful owner because no one came forward to claim it etc etc. I am not suggesting any of these scenarios are likely, just pointing out that unless someone can prove it is a fraud eBay is unlikely to pull the auction. In any case if it sells for anything like the true value the purchaser could probably afford to fly to Australia to collect in person. The seller is a fraud, who doesn't have the camera and he is not in Australia. Last time he listed it on eBay.uk and fortunately, the winning bidder saw through his scheme, gave him a negative feedback and pulled away from the purchase. Best, Jan Agree : the event that the seller is 100% legitimate imho has a 0,01% chance (not 0, ok). The pics, indeed, don't seem downloaded directly from Westlicht, but a well-focused guy can do a fine job of "composing" the posted pics in... let's say two/three hours, a job that can be finely repaid... It may be worth bidding the Westlicht high bid price and then asking to see pics of it on a copy of today's local paper. If in the million to one lottery of life it turns out to be real you could probably resell to a Chinese collector for the Westlicht final price and pocket the 20 per cent buyer's premium, which would more than cover the cost of a heavily-armed bagman to pick it up in person.
