johnbuckley Posted March 1, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 1, 2007 There is a superb book called "Leica M" by Gunther Osterloh, available in English, that is as relevant to an M8 shooter as to an M3 shooter -- lots of very practical information about how rangefinders work, and practical information about photography in general. I have spent as much time with my nose in it upon purchase of my M8 as I did upon getting an M7. Â There is also a very good book called "Leica M Photography" by Brian Bower. More photos in it, written by a good writer who still, I believes, writes for LFI. Â Finally, there is "Leica: Witness to a Century," which is a first-rate history. Â Enjoy. grober Posted March 1, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 1, 2007 Yup, the books John mentions above are great to read as an intro to the Leica M. Â What I hanker for is a book that help me learn Capture One that also shipped with the M8. Understandable help and/or effective tutorials for this obscure piece of code are next to nonexistant. andit Posted March 1, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 1, 2007 Hi Mike, Â I'm also new to rangefinders and bought the "Leica M" book by Gunter Osterloh (got mine through Amazon, remember to support this forum by clicking on the link from within here). This book is great. Eventhough the M8 is not explicitly mentioned in the book, the camera is to new, it only differs in the way it records the image - silicon as opposed to silver halide. Very informative book, showing you exactly how you should meter your exposure, how the rangefinder system works, etc. Plus it has the history of how the Leica M came into being - started out as being designed as a light meter for the motion picture business in 1913. Also, what I found interesting is what Leica actually stands for - LEItz CAmera. Â Hope this helps you. Andreas
