"I carry my camera everywhere" In what?

I have a neoprene pouch but as Richardgb noted, it's not always the easiest to use.

But its not overly expensive, offers reasonable protection, doesn't look too snazzy and can be simply stuffed into a pocket when not in use. I've used one since first getting an M8 ~5 years ago. It gets my vote.

Yes, my question was about protecting just the camera with a lens attached and nothing else. I also think the Rina case looks like it will fit the bill. The Benser also looks interesting. I have a neoprene pouch but as Richardgb noted, it's not always the easiest to use.

Bearing in mind that most of the time while you're using the camera you won't want a bag at all, just for weather protection and so on while its not in action, its important that the bag doesn't get in the way, and can itself go in a pocket.

For that reason the Leica neoprene pouch that folds into a tiny wad is perfect - good protection when needed and no more.

For one camera with one lens, consider the M-neoprene case (14867 short version; 14868 long version) for fine weather situations. Anything more extensive and it is my A&A ACAM3000.

I have all but given up finding a bag that carries both camera and lenses etc together in a compact and ergonomic fashion.

For travel the lot goes in a Dothebag mono 6 which will take an M9, 6 lenses, ipad and sundries........ it's small but when loaded up is too heavy to lug about everywhere.....

For actual out and about photography I just take a Lowepro Streamline 100 which just takes 3 lenses max. and a few odds and ends .... it's tiny and weighs nothing. Camera lives on my shoulder or round my neck......

I didn't change to Leica just to load up with gear again..... these days if the weight is noticeable or the bag restricts movement etc. it's going in the attic with all the other rejects...

I love the compact style and protection of the Rina case and the leather Kando one as well.

They are pricey but a beautiful design and very functional. Mine holds an M7 with the 50 lux and several rolls of film and fits nicely in my purse.

It doesn't pay to advertise that you are "carrying". Never-ready cases are aptly named. I carry a Leica on a simple neckstrap, over the shoulder, under an open jacket. Quickly drawn but otherwise hidden. It becomes part of your body.

If I am going out with the camera and a single lens I use a small Optech neoprene pouch that is a good fit for the M9 with Summicron 35mm or with a slight squeeze the Summilux 50mm. It uses the camera's own strap and can be removed in seconds by undoing two press studs and pulling it off. It rolls up and fits in any pocket. It takes only slightly longer to put back on.

It is inexpensive, gives protection against knocks and scratches and provides a discreet cover when going to places that do not permit photography. The only drawback is that it is not waterproof.

If I need to take extra lenses, filters etc they go in a small leather shoulder bag. Like many others here I like to travel light.

Sooo....

You don't stipulate which camera :D I use a 14522 pouch for M2, M7 & MP and a 18513 for the II and other smaller cameras (currently a Ricoh GRDIII). They have the advantage of holding the camera horizontally rather than vertically which works better under a jacket.

Regards,

Bill

I carry my M9, two crons and extra batteries/memory in a little pelicase #1320, every day to work and on assignments. (not my main camera)

It goes in the back of the car, inside a backpack, carry-on on planes. Its waterproof, crash-proof, child-proof, probably also bombproof or even journalist-proof. Most importantly it doesnt look like a camera bag.

If I am out shooting I will just put the extra lens and condiments in a zippered pocket.

I also have a Domke F-5Xb for when I need three or four lenses with me. As far as actual bags go, its the best I have seen so far.

And the pictures to prove it. One of the case open and one of the case closed with an everyday object for comparison.

Total weight less than two kilos. (excluding the scotch, because you cant take that on carry-on)

The Mono_06 from dothebag.

Holds M9 with 5 lenses, an iPad, parts and table tripod. No noisy velcro, no slippery nylon. Everyday with me, even on a fixed gear bike.

The Mono_6 is quite big.

I use the Rina if I'm going to throw my M9 onto the car dashboard, or into a backpack. It is strictly a one (smallish) lens bag (28 mm, 35 mm or 50 mm lens).

If I want to take a couple of spare lenses (75 & 35 mm combination, or 50 & 28 mm, or 21, 35, 75 mm) and other clobber, I will take a Billingham M Combination (M9 with two or three lenses) - it's rugged and reasonably weather proof.

For extended trips where I want to take my iPad etc, then I use the Mono_9, which will hold M9, 4 lenses (21, 35, 50 & 75) and spare body (NEX or M3). But, you wouldn't want to carry all that crap around with you.

Each bag has its benefits, and is used in different situations. For our trip to Europe this July, I will take the Mono-9 fully loaded (as carry on), and the Rina or Billingham will go into my check in luggage. The half case may or may not make the cut. Once on the road, I will use one or other bag for outings, and what I'm not using will be secured in the car or hotel safe.

I hope this helps - each bag has a different use, and you will find you need each. If you have only one lens, the Rina is fine. But you will need to find a home for your spare battery, grey card, camel hair brush, spare memory cards, glasses, phone, keys, passport ...

I always seem to end up with too much, but having a choice enables me to reduce what I carry and store things I'm unlikely to need that day.

Cheers

John

I don't carry a camera unless I expect to take some pictures. In that case my minimal outfit of two M9ps, one with 50mm Summilux, the other with either 35mm Summilux or 24 Elmar go into a small New Generation bag together with spare batteries andvSD cards. If I want additional lenses I transfer to the large New Generation bag or in extreme cases the Billingham 225.

I have considered getting a smart 'phone but would find no other use for it.

I use a black, German military "Kampftasche":

If I just carry the camera with lens attached, I wrap it in a lowe pro wrap that came with a TerraClime bag:

Lowepro - Terraclime 100

If I want to carry more, I put a camera insert into the Kampftasche.
