Ignore List

I've finally found the Ignore List, thank God!

There is one member who simply posts obnoxious posts at every opportunity (no informative or positive content other than how experienced and knowledgeable he is) and another who has averaged 26 posts per day since joining the forum only a week or so ago (1,700 posts, not one thanked, and no friends), and finally the guy who sanded his camera to get brassing! Jesus wept!

I know these guys add entertainment, and it is pointless just reading and interacting with people who you like and agree with, but these particular individuals were doing my head in.

Now, where did I put my rose tinted glasses!

Cheers

John

If it were not for the obnoxious we would not appreciate the good.

(crawls under shell and hides )

That is the problem, but when the noise levels impact on the quality of the other posts (e.g., Bert's fantastic posting on hand held stabilization), I prefer a bit of filtering. Sadly, it's hard to say something like that without sounding arrogant ...

My sympathies to the moderators who have to read all this nonsense.

Cheers

John

John I think it's reasonable and worthwhile to interact with people that share your viewpoints or offer your opinion /suggestions where you think they may be a useful contribution.

Resisting being distracted makes for a better Forum experience. I think the Ignore Filter is a useful tool to assist there. No doubt we all have varying sensitivities ;).

Don't laugh at the sandpaper story! A Leica dealer once offered me an MP bought new that was traded back after exactly that treatment. The owner thoughtfully included the viewfinder window in the areas to be sanded.

It was a terrible thing to hold in your hand.

He tricked you, John :) .

Going by your speedy answer, Steve might even be on your contact list.

Happy sandpapering, guys :D !

Cheers,

Simon

Oh, and where did you find this useful tool?

I tend to agree. I think Enwright wrote a poem on a similar theme. (The Proper Due).

The ignore list is a two-edged sword. There are people I simply wouldn't trust enough to turn my back on them.

Generally, the noise around here is easily ignored. If it's a thread you are not interested in, don't read it. Ditto posts. It's not hard; I don't need an artificial filter thank you, my inbuilt ones are perfectly up to the job.

The only thing that winds me up is the indiscriminate use of the quote button to replicate acres of text when the original is directly above...

Regards,

Bill

Just for the benefit of those who are ignoring you, Bill:p

I like the idea, it's like having a gnat buzzing around pestering you, much easier to 'zap' it via the ignore button, keeps the thread cleaner. You can't prevent pests existing, you can take measures to eliminate them from bandwidth , until someone quotes what they say, which is inescapable.

Steve :D
