Is there a camera body case for D2? Any suggestions for Dlux 5 case?

I have not posted for quite some time. I have a D2 going way back, sensor I think was once replaced. It sits in a bellingham bag I would like to find a half body camera case for her. I just traded in our Digilux3 for a 5 for our yacht picture taking brokerage. The D3 was a workhorse. My wife travels with it so I need protection, but I need quick usage. The problem is it is slightly bigger than the 3 so ? I am also looking at an X1 for personal use off market.

Maybe Digilux 3 hand grip and a artisan & artist half case with a 7200 camera bag? Attached is the case we had for the 3 made limited edition by Crumpler.

chaimemet, welcome back to the forum!

Yours is a tricky request. My D2 travels in its original D2 leather case which has proved ideal. However it has been rejected by many D2 owners.

As you also mention X1 in your posting, I found a useful Lowepro Apex 100 all-weather case which hangs via a long strap or fits on a waist belt. I use the latter. The case is slightly bigger than I would choose, but there is room for a spare battery and cards with good protection. The weather-proofing might be useful in sailing situations. The Apex 100 is the smallest in a range; so it is possible that a bigger one would suit your Digilux 2. The cases are currently available so are meeting a genuine need.

For the D-Lux 5, I strongly recommend Leica 18752 D-Lux 5 Leather Case with Wrist Strap. I used it all the time and when traveling I just tuck it in my belt - like a holster.

I went to Dale where I bought the D5 and sampled some Leica product cases but settled on the half case from Artisan. It gave the camera some needed bulk that I missed with the Digilux 3. It has a built-in thumb guard. I changed the lens cover to a self opening leaf cover. I invested in the Artisan 7000 case it is slightly bigger than the nice greenish Leica case that I think was made for the X1. Since the D5 has a neck strap it did not fit easily in the Leica case, also the Artisan case looks more like a messenger case and there is no logo to attract. Slim too. I ordered from Leica a replacement lens cover for the rect hood for the D2. I have a Billingham beautiful case for the gear for the Digilux 2 but the bottom of the camera shows wear. I am sold on the practicality of a half case. I don't think I can find one except for the Italian Luigia. Nice but stratospheric in price. I will post some of the first pics I took with the D5. It is a very good upgrade from the D3. We had used it extremely well in many boating photos for our listings and as a traveling camera in place if the D2. The D5 offers us an even wider lens for interior shots and the dummy mode of camera A is now even more intelligent for backlit situations, focusing, and possible better resolution at higher ISOs so when my wife takes the camera out of town to shoot for listings there is more insurance I will get something easier to work with. We really did use that camera as an essential tool for our business. Four years ago I went on a launch boat from the surf of Oregon and had a wave completely wash over the boat the last thing seen on the mpeg. Leica was kind to give me a healthy discount on its replacement, it was under warranty but certainly voided under the circumstances.

I'm a bit confused about what you're asking because of the abbreviations you've used.:o The commonly used abbreviations are:

Digilux 2: D2

Digilux 3: D3

D-Lux 2: DL2

D-Lux 3: DL3

D-Lux 4: DL4

D-Lux 5: DL5

Lovely pictures by the way.:)

Pete.
